Oze Iwakura is one of the largest ski resorts in the Kanto area with 16 courses, 9 lifts + 1 gondola, and 697 meters (2,286 ft) of vertical descent. It's said to be best suited for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, but there are several courses for advanced and beginners, too.

It's not as crowded as other more popular ski resorts and because there are so many advanced skiers, we had a great time snowboarding down several courses and didn't have a any trouble getting around.

Location: Gunma prefecture

Best to come by car, it's a 2-3 hr drive from Tokyo. (Parking on weekends are free if you have more than 4 people in the car!)

Or you can come by shinkansen, closest station is Numata Station on the JR Joetsu Shinkansen Line, then another 50min by bus.

「First of all, I will have to say this hotel has very minor stinkbug problem just like all the Japanese old style wood structure hotels have. In the winter those bugs will find a way to invade wood houses, but don't worry, they won't bite, and the staffs try to clean them at their best. Beside that, all the other service is top grade compare to the price, people are friendly and try to provide best they have, nice onsen, comfortable and clean rooms, I think I will consider to stay there again.」

"Nice location. Not too far from station. Nice rental shop just near the entrance. Gears are ok, just for fun ride. Dry room can be better. No shuttles to station…."

"Average services, I rate both good and bad. Good is the inclusive meals (optional during booking), I was given a lot of quality food in a presentable traditional Japanese setting, but bad is that my booking includes 2 adults and 1 kid, the hotel told me I needed to pay extra for my kids staying (I had no choice so I paid) and tried to charge me other items like extra bed, extra meal for my kid (I rejected these). I hate how the hotel manage bookings and dishonesty as I had already paid my booking for 3 members in full but then got charged extra when I arrived without any email communication before I check-in, other major problem to the overall experience is that most of the staffs speak broken English and even not understand, I find it very difficult to communicate, also both indoor and outdoor onsen water is all dirty, the outdoor onsen water is not even hot."
