Between Lakes and Nature (Hydrangea House)
Near Tresa, halfway between Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano, in a quiet residential hillside area, CASA ORTENSIA is the ideal accommodation for those seeking a relaxing stay immersed in nature, yet close to the main attractions of Ticino, Lombardy, and Piedmont.
The apartment features a spacious living area, well divided into a lounge with a comfortable leather double sofa bed, a large dining area, and a fully equipped open-plan kitchen—perfect for preparing tasty meals independently (Please note: the sofa bed is not prepared, we think it is proper to use the sofa during non-sleeping hours. You will find sheets, pillows and blankets in the closet/shelf most adjacent to the sofa). The large French door opens onto the patio and private garden, ideal for outdoor living and enjoying the mild summer climate. The warm and authentic atmosphere is enhanced by rustic finishes and tasteful furnishings, with elegant wooden and terracotta details. Upstairs, the two bedrooms—one double and one with bunk beds—are spacious, tastefully furnished, and both have access to a large terrace overlooking the surrounding greenery. Completing the property are two classic-style bathrooms: one guest toilet and one main bathroom equipped with both a bathtub and a shower.
Quality bedding, towels and a courtesy kit are provided.
We also leave a gift basket with some necessary items for your first breakfast.
The apartment includes an uncovered private parking space in the shared residential area.
Any commercial business is forbidden inside the apartment.
Guests have the access of the whole apartment.

Strategically located, Tresa lies exactly halfway between Lake Lugano to the east and Lake Maggiore to the west, making CASA ORTENSIA the perfect base to explore some of the most charming destinations in Ticino, Lombardy, and Piedmont. Just minutes from the apartment, you can visit the evocative Sessa Gold Mine and the Small Museum of Monteggio—two interesting stops to discover the region’s local history and traditions. In about 15–20 minutes by car, you can reach Luino and Maccagno, two charming towns on the shores of Lake Maggiore, ideal for a day of relaxation with swimming, water sports, and lakeside strolls. Just 25 minutes away is Lugano, with its elegant historic center, boutiques, and parks. For art and nature lovers, don’t miss Parco Ciani, the MASI (Art Museum of Italian Switzerland), and the climb to Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore, with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The southern shore of Lake Maggiore also offers enchanting scenery: in just over an hour, you can reach the picturesque villages of Ispra, Angera (with the splendid Rocca Borromea), and Arona—ideal for a day trip. Finally, a visit to the city of Varese is a must, with its lively center, outdoor cafés, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sacro Monte in the Campo dei Fiori Park.
How to get there:
By car, take the A2 motorway and exit at Lugano Nord towards Ponte Tresa/Airport. With GPS, you’ll reach the property in about 20 minutes.
By train, from Lugano station take the S60 train towards Ponte Tresa and get off at the last stop (11 stops, about 26 minutes). From there, take bus 436 towards Novaggio and get off at the “Monteggio, Bruciata” stop (10 stops, about 8 minutes). The apartment is about a 3-minute walk away.
