The area the property was located in is very convenient to everything from restaurants to nightlife. It was also close to the University of Alabama and I-20. I booked my room through a 3rd party although I am a marriott rewards member. I was told that my stay wouldn't count towards earning points for the rewards program. I was also denied early check-in although I was told by the young lady at the front desk that I could check-in early. She was nice about it. So I wasn't mad. She may be friendly but upon arriving at the hotel to check-in the professionalism and customer service was lacking. Apparently something happened before we arrived because staff from housekeeping was at the front desk and they were having a conversation. The front desk clerk who checked us in was trying to talk low because guests were standing there waiting to check-in. The female cleaning staff made a statement and rolled her eyes as if whatever happened upset her. It was hard to ignore her because she boldly stated in front of us that this is why a general manager need to be here. I can't say that I was surprised, but it was unprofessional. If you are going to have this type of conversation, please do it when no one is standing there to be checked in or occupying the lobby area. When we were finally checked in, as soon as we entered the room it smelt like mildew. Like the carpet was wet. Shout out to the lady who prepared and put out breakfast. She was nice and professional. I will not return.
