"We had an excellent 2 night stay at Tamaya. We were collected and dropped off at Bessho Onsen train Station. All staff were wonderfully helpful despite our lack of Japanese language. The meals were fantastic and varied (different meals for breakfast and dinner each day). Our room was very comfortable with Western beds and a seating area. We spent a day exploring temples in the area- note that very few shops, cafes or restaurants were open on a Monday."

"Everyone was so polite and I love the eco consciousness. The breakfast buffet has great choices. No need to bring pajamas, facial care, q-tips, brush/comb, toothbrush/toothpaste, plus the usual soap and shampoo/conditioner. There are a few washer/dryers on-site but there is also a laundromat across the street if none are available (they even have a dedicated washer for shoes!). I didn’t try it but there are separate onsens on-site (female and male). Very short walk to Ueda station so great location!"

"It felt like coming home to the countryside after being away for so long! This is our 2nd time staying here, and the owners welcomed us back like family - even came to pick us up at the train station, and made sure we had everything we needed- and more! We are a family of 5 with little kids, so we were looking for a spacious home, and this place has space to spare - didn’t even need to use the upstairs rooms. Our 2 week stay went by quickly and very smoothly. The house is very well-stocked, so no worries if you forgot your toothbrush, or didn’t bring shampoo. All you need is your clothes, some food to cook (with plenty of dishes and utensils for cooking!), and enjoy your comfortable, lovely stay in a truly authentic Japanese home. Very close to a big supermarket, 7-eleven, Ueda, and all the natural beauty Nagano offers. Every time we leave, it’s like having to part with a piece of our soul. The owners couldn’t have been more hospitable- we even had a farewell barbecue in their yard, and our little ones were always welcomed to play there. Loved our time here! We’ll be back soon!!"

"The staff was friendly. I had a smoking room and asked to be changed to a non-smoking room. There were none available. They had room/fabric spray to help with the smoke smell, but it didn't help. I'm sure if I could have had a non-smoking room, I would have enjoyed my stay more. The hotel was close to the train station so it was loud during the day. It was no problem at night. It was convenient to do laundry at the hotel. "
