Let me begin by saying that Port Loring is a beautiful and cozy little town with a lot of really great things to do. The Port Shores supplied us with very good espresso and freshly baked cinnamon twists (amazing!), and ice cream on hot afternoons. The beach is not huge, but the kids had a good time. We caught lots of smallies and rock bass off the dock, and Gohms (cash) had everything we needed and great tips. 35 minutes from Grundy Lake! Helene's - amazing pies!This cottage was appealing to our large family because we have a difficult time finding places to stay within a reasonable price. This cottage was recommended by a friend who had previously stayed there, and was reasonably priced. Unfortunately, some of the same challenges reported in other reviews were experienced during our stay. The cottage wasn't particularly clean (floors), leading our two daughters to have their own little sweeping spree. Things that were supposed to be there according to the listing and welcome email were not present or were not represented accurately (one roll of toilet paper, no paper towels, empty propane tanks, no tent, hammock in disrepair and not usable, very few pieces of cutlery, no can opener). The host did communicate that they were waiting for their screen porch to be fixed and that they didn't have a lot of pots and pans for larger bookings (more than a few people), so we brought some of our own because we cook most of our own meals. No host response re: propane at all.

The one star is not fair because we didn't even get a chance to stay there. Booked in may for August 2025. 45 Minutes into a 4.5 hour journey, received a message from the host informing me that they have to cancel as they cannot get the cleaner there and their backup cleaner cannot make it either.After All the preparations, food in coolers etc. etc. to be told that cancelling on the day is beyond unprofessional. The question is obvious, how does the host not know that they have a party of 4 coming the night before?of course they did but waited until the morning of to inform the guests.Absolutely terrible behavior.

Port Loring cottage rental

Check in ok, musty/moldy smell upon entry throughout, cleaners could have done a better job, floors required attention. Food left from previous people in cupboards, not cleaned, glass electric kettle has white film all inside it, closets are unusable. Website shows old photo, does not reflect current state of property as shown. No glamping tent to be seen, hammock is not located within their now fenced in property and looks like it is on another property. Only 1 chair to be seen around the firepit. Other than that we as a family enjoyed our time there. Small beach within walking distance which was nice and easy to keep eye on the kids. Check out the Port Shore and Helens Bakery! The owners were the most friendly and helpful people you will ever meet.

Worst property and host experience

I don’t even know where to begin. We had gone up and down the road 3 times before we realized it was the right place. Very different from the pictures in the listing. Pics were probably taken back when the place was just finished renovating years ago. Backyard was messy with dead leaves everywhere and a moldy kids pool. The entire main floor (kitchen, living room, game room and dining area) was very dirty and dusty. My daughter had came back with her hands and socks black from so much dust. There were so many spider webs all over the ceiling. I spent the first evening cleaning and mopping so the kids could play and walk around. Looked like everything was put away, but not cleaned. The light cover in kitchen was falling off. The ceilings did have stains on them. We assumed from maybe some sort of leak, but didn’t really care until we got a rainstorm on the second last day of our stay. Water had started coming into the house (seems like a roof issue). One of the bedroom floors was soaked and the suitcase with clothes got soaked as well. We cleaned everything up and contacted the host. Long story short, host had agreed to refunding the last night so we could leave early. I had children with me and didn’t want to risk staying in a house that had water coming in while there was an ongoing rain storm. It has now been almost a month and Vrbo is having an issue with the host as she refuses to respond to Vrbo’s emails or calls to approve the refund.
I contacted the host about the light cover falling and she said someone was gonna come to fix it. No one came.

Honestly wasnt bad over all exsept hairs in the sink and over dirty and some hairs on the bedding. And ac units left in the windows still so was a bit drafty. But honsstly was grate location and everything other then the cleaner not cleaning proper. I would stay there again if still available next time i go up and is cleaned proper

Cottage getaway

We had a great time at this little cottage. The property was clean and tidy. The host provided indoor and outdoor games which was really nice for the whole family to enjoy. The beach was a 5-7 minute walk from the property. Overall, it was a nice experience for everyone!

Amazing Experience

This cottage made us fall in love with Port Loring. We have so much more we want to do - whether it be games, Port Shores or simply more camp fires and a longer stay. The cottage is beautiful, the hosts were quick to respond to make sure we had everything and the dogs had lots of room to play. Definitely recommend
