The location is conveniently located next to the main road with safe parking. Our room overlooked the river featuring amazing sunset views. The food at the restaurant was excellent.
Terrible experience at this hotel, i had booked a room with a river view, upon my arrival I was allocated a cube room, with no window and a partitioned balcony. I queried this and noticed that they gave my room to their frequent guest and I had to suffer as am not a regular at the property. I was later given a room which had a small window still not the room I had booked and paid for. Just when i though I had all the terrible experience the dinner was even worse i could not swallow their wings under cooked and covered with BBQ source which was very brown.
Not so good. Very impersonal check-in...limited information provided and had to make calls from the room to request for basics like WiFi password.
Allocated a room I had not requested, called to request the booked room, an alternative key brought to the room with little communication on room location, etc....service very unfriendly.
The room had spider webs, the bathtub plug didn't close and we couldn't take a proper bath. No extra blankets...and its winter now, with the aircon not working to warm up the room.
No social distancing at breakfast...tables set up to full capacity!
What a sad way to spend a birthday & Mother's day weekend!!
The room was clean and adequate with a coffee/tea maker and small fridge. Bed was comfy. The bathroom was clean and offered small size toiletries. The restaurant offered good food but the service was very slow. The saving grace in having to wait so long for our dinner was the pleasant indoor/outdoor dining area. Breakfast was also of a good quality but again the service time was unacceptable. Overall a good stay and we would probably return.
Chambre confortable et avec une jolie vue sur l'Orange river, mais climatisation bruyante et piscine ridiculeusement petite. Prix élevé. Personnel attentionné
Overnight stay.. hotel well located near the river.. beautiful views of sunrise . Rooms are in good condition, comfortable and clean. Service was good and efficient.overall good stay
good bed, but water in the shower not flowing, so it was more like a bath than a shower. Cook at breakfast not very motivated. Had to be pulled twice from the kitchen to get her to do omelettes. Friendly waitress at breakfast. Good location.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Room was tired. Fridge was broken, although they changed it felt as though they did so under duress.
Ate in restaurant, service was slow and food quality not very good.
The room was clean and tidy somewhat old style, Shower area too small and cramped actually in my opinion is a trip hazard. Location of room is poor if you have a suitcase and proximity to lift. All of the staff were very good and readily assisted with any enquiries I made. I would recommend the Protea mainly due to the professional staff I dealt with.
The food was excellent good coffee and friendly staff.

Meh...
I was pretty disappointed with my room -- it was dark, windowless (there was a tiny window, but it looked into the darkened interior of the building), the bed wasn't very comfortable, and the tv was positioned in such a way that you couldn't see it directly from the bed. The bathroom was also very dark. I stayed 2 nights, and the morning after my first night, construction (banging anyway), started at ~7 AM. Ugh.
The hotel grounds themselves look nice and the breakfast was fine. My room, however, wasn't worth the money.

Stopover
Great option for 1 night stopover.
Very good breakfast
The room didnot meet the standards as per your description. There was no view I looked onto a brick wall, the bed was small and uncomfortable and the price I paid did not justify what I received. Management said they would sort it out only to be told later that I must take it up with hotels.vom

Only hot water at 38 degrees
Checked in at about 15h00 on 18 December 2013. Family suite was very impressive but then things went downhill: A) The toilet would/could not flush (broken mechnism). B) There was no cold water, only very hot or extremely hot. After 2 hours we were moved to a new room with the assurancethatthat room had cold water. This was not the case, also only boiling water out of the taps. After another two hours waiting and a lengthy excuse by the (non-present) maintenance manager over the phone I checked out. I was promised a full refund or credit. To date I have heard nothing from the hotel. Front staff was very friendly and helpful but it appears that the maintenance department lacks the understanding that it is not a cheap hotel and that at those rates a fully functional hotel is a must.
