Casa de Trás-o-Muro is located in the rural parish of Folhadela, belonging to the municipality of Vila Real, capital of Trás-os-Montes. It is also inserted in the Alto Douro Region – renowned by its Port Wine vineyards and being part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It fits into the traditional architecture of the Douro house with rustic lines, characteristic of agricultural houses. The construction of the house dates back to the XVIII century / beginning of the XIX century. Its restoration was carried out by the current owners in compliance with the most demanding quality criteria and respect for the original materials. The house began to receive guests on the 7th of July of 2023.
Available as a tourism holiday villa or for a weekend getaway, the house can accommodate up to 8 + 2 people in its 4 suites with a high level of comfort, all with a panoramic balcony or access to the patio, as well as a private bathroom. The living room is built on the site of the old stone wine press, having been carefully preserved. The fireplace invites you to relax on cold days. The house also offers a fully equipped modern kitchen and laundry room. All the rooms of the house are perfectly harmonized with the patio, the garden at the back of the house, a barbecue area, and the surrounding landscape.
The house is also designed and prepared for people with reduced mobility on the entire ground floor, with a suite and bathroom suitable for their comfort requirements, in addition to other equipment available.
The house is air-conditioned by an AC system and decorated with original author pieces which have marked the history of Portugal and the region, whose biography can be found throughout the house.
The patio allows private parking for 4 cars and the garden has indigenous tree and shrub species – olive trees, holly, cypresses, blackthorn and garden plum trees, as well as aromatic plants – rosemary, lavender and santolina. The house has a pool available during the spring and summer months, and is very close to the Natur Water Park (9 min, 7.3km, N313-1).
Its privileged location in the peri-urban area of Vila Real, guarantees marked peace and tranquillity, while allowing proximity to cities, towns and places of interest in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region – Régua, capital of the Douro (16min, 18km, A24), Lamego (26min, 29.3km, A24), Resende (51min, 43km, A24 and N108), Sabrosa and Miguel Torga Museum (13min, 12.7km, N322), Pinhão (40min, 29.4km, N323), viewpoint of S. Leonardo de Galafura (21min, 16.8km, N313-1), Alvão Natural Park (31min, 27.9km, EM313), among others. It is 1h 8min from the city of Porto by car (97.3km, A4) and very close to the Vila Real airfield (3min, 1.8km, N313).
Our guests will always be received with a welcome basket, namely with the traditional gastronomic specialties of Vila Real – covilhetes, a meat pastry from the region (Maronesa beef), and cristas de galo (“cock crests”), a conventual sweet stuffed with an egg-based filling, elected one of the 7 Sweet Wonders of Portugal, and seasonal fruits.
