Cute mom-and-pop property in a great location near Volcanoes National Park. It felt more like staying in a little house in the rainforest than a hotel. A little rustic, but in a good way. Hearing the birds and other animals at night made it really special. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

The host was excellent. Breakfast was handy. Location was perfect (was able to see an early morning eruption- 5 minutes to the park!) Room was large and comfortable. Lots of resources and books on site. Fridge for lunch/food and kitchen to cook if needed (reasonably stocked). Volcano is colder than Hilo - bring a jacket/sweater. Close to all the little local (delicious) restaurants. Volcano Forest Inn has seen better days. Place really need a deep clean and fresh paint in a few places. Hard to fight the forest and the rain. Could not beat the price and location. Overall very pleasant stay. And memorable trip.

The outside of the property was not well maintained and was dirty. The rooms were damp and had a musty smell. I would not recommend this for any long-term stay maybe a day is OK if you’re just going to the park for one day

The room was large and comfortable. It had a working cable tv and lovely view of the rainforest. The house was quiet and well organized. The bed was shaken and needs new mattress.

From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed. The room was great and spacious. It does get cold at night, but there is a portable heater in the room. The staff was literally a text away. I didn't want for anything. John was very pleasant and a joy to talk to. I will definitely put this on my hotels to stay at again.

Our stay was brief but we had a nice night at the inn. The inn is inside the Volcano village so next to the restaurants and the general store.

I would sum things up that this property is 'rustic'. And there are a few minor things that can be improved on, and a few bigger problems you can't. Bigger: noise - people walking around are loud, not intentionally, but the walls are thin breakfast - picked this one as I thought it was a nice full breakfast. its some fruit, a not so good danish and dry cereal bar. smaller, but important items: only one pillow per person, hmmm, a pillow is like $10, you need at least 2/pp only one side of the bed has a light, one doesnt, not good for that person

Rooms were clean, breakfast was great with a variety of quick items to grab for breakfast including fresh fruit, oatmeal, pastries, and coffee/tea. Location was perfect…5 minutes to the national park! Some improvement areas: entrance area to hotel/porch could be cleaned up of tools and pet items for better curb appeal. Also, I know it’s a rainforest and thus very humid, but finding a way to decrease the humidity in the rooms would make a more comfortable stay. None of our damp/wet items dried and the fixtures were rusting.
