Located in a valley on the edge of a development of 24 or so properties at the Point at Polzeath, it is a striking building arranged over 3 floors. It's actually a great location for being close to super beaches (Polzeath/Daymer Bay), a short drive to some brilliant restaurants and pubs (Nathan Outlaw/St Kew Inn/Strong Adolfo/the Mariners and so on) and facilities for indoor swimming, tennis, golf on your doorstep plus the Camel Trail a few minutes drive away. We enjoyed our stay here and it is a good base but would have reservations about booking again, particularly having seen other properties on the Point.
It has a nice feel to it, homely, brightly decorated although showing some signs of tiredness (cracked tiles, chipped work surfaces, post for various guests left on shelves). Good sized bedrooms (ground/2nd floor) and 4 bathrooms make for plenty of space, comfortable beds, nice linen and lots of clean towels left out. The living area is ok but would likely get quite congested if more than 6 people were staying here. Nice large kitchen table and lots of glasses, plates and so on. The lounge area curves from the kitchen with two sofas nearby, a log burner with good amount of wood but a very small television. Sofas felt tired and softening.
Outside there is a nice barbecue area and terrace but again attention to detail lacking - washing line falling apart, sports racquet covers left laying around - so in general the place could do with a little bit of love and attention.
On arrival, because of Covid-19 it was a late arrival as could only check in at 5pm in the dark! Whilst the property was averagely clean, there were food crumbs in a couple of the cupboards, the clean was not as deep as perhaps the company would have expected and the vacuum cleaner was broken. We had a separate issue with a window in the main bedroom that had become home to hundreds of midges that escaped into the room. In that regard CH were superb in their response. Within hours they had come out, deep cleaned the room, repaired the vacuum cleaner and sorted it all out. I found that CH, even though we had a few problems on this trip, dealt with everything without hiding away and tried their best to ensure things were sorted and they were.
One point to note - in October 2020 when I was there the property has a substantial building site behind and adjoining it - 6 or so large properties are being constructed there. Building works are referenced toward the bottom of the CH description of the property but given we had researched the property on Airbnb there was no mention made of this. On clicking through to the CH website to check pricing we booked without ever seeing the description on CH. Again in fairness to the CH they have immediately picked up on this and dealt with it. The works could be disruptive if you're looking for a peaceful and no noise break (which this place would be if the works were not going on - it is an idyllic setting). At this time, from 7am onwards on a weekday diggers, lorries and so on are working right up against the property and if windows are open or you're wanting to sit outside then there will be interruption.
