"Room was clean and comfortable with a nice view. My only gripe was having no iron and board for ironing clothes before going out. We didn't have breakfast so i really don't know how that would have gone. I liked the location being close to downtown. Staff was awesome."

"The property was very clean and beautifully decorated. Comfortable bed and nice shower. Quite close to Wingaersheek Beach, which we visited daily. Close to a cute ice cream stand and great restaurants. The host provided useful information prior to check-in, and the check-in process was smooth. Room for improvement: there was no kitchen trash can or any foil, plastic wrap, or other means of storing food that we could find. When I messaged the owner through the app about this, I never got a response. The owner did leave a personal phone number listed in the kitchen, but I did not feel comfortable messaging from my personal phone, and would have preferred and expected a response through the rental app. There was no door to the bathroom, just a sliding panel, and no hooks or bars to hang towels or clothes from. There were no night stands in the bedroom for personal items (phone/charger/book etc). There were LED lights near the bed, but the remote for one of them did not work, and the light fell apart when I tried to turn it on manually. Also, the owner's primary house was a lot closer to the rental cottage than I expected based on the pictures and the description. I would consider booking again with the addition of more staple kitchen supplies, a way to hang towels and clothes, at least one night stand in the bedroom, and assurances of prompt communication through the rental app."
Spacious 1790 Captain's estate, large pool, near beautiful beach

"The house was fabulous. Built in 1790, it has great character. Nicely cared for, furnished with antiques and collected paintings and loaded with family pictures, we correctly felt we were staying in someone’s fine home - not just a house. It easily accommodated our family of 11, including having enough bathrooms so one ever had to wait. Despite its historical elegance, there are plenty of modern conveniences and a great kitchen for cooking. The grounds were also beautiful and well tended. We enjoyed the pool, which was nice itself but made even better by the vine-covered, and hence shaded, sitting area. The kids used the Gazebo to host an elegant wedding of two beloved stuffed animals.The best part was our host, Dana May, for whom the house is her family home. She communicated well and frequently and took care of any little things we asked. For example, we thoroughly enjoyed the giant bird feeder outside the kitchen window, which attracted delightful finches and sparrows. The hungry birds emptied the feeder twice. A quick text to Dana, and the feeder was refilled. We also had a special challenge in that one of our party, my adult son, uses a wheelchair. Well ahead of our stay, Dana facilitated having a temporary ramp put in to access the front door by meeting with the supplier, and she had a door removed and replaced by a curtain for my son’s bedroom to ensure his wheelchair would have access.Finally, location matters. Manchester-by-the-Sea is great!"

"Step right out onto a private beach from this family-centered home. The house accommodated our three-generation family beautifully with multiple spaces to gather (or to retreat to). A garage filled with sand toys and sports activities, and a Weber grill. Our kids enjoyed the kayak and the paddle board, too. While the house has 2.5 baths, note that the primary bathroom on the main floor is on the small side with a stall shower; the tub is currently unusable. This didn’t deter us a bit but it might be a problem for others. Bob, the host, was in frequent communication and very willing to offer help. We couldn’t have asked for a better setup for our family of eleven."

"Unfortunately my wife got sick a few days before our trip and we decided the best option for us was to not go. We were past the point of any refund per the policy but John was understanding and immediately said we would could work something out. We were able to agree on a partial refund that worked for both of us. We hope to make the trip another time and would definitely rent from John in the future."

"I would recommend bringing your own oven mitts to remove food from oven, because there are none provided. Bring your own decaf ground coffee for the machine. There is no toaster oven so you need to use the broiler for toasting bagels.The place is across from the water. Air conditioning in bedrooms and living room. The place was convenient to everything in the area. If you want to go to Hammond castle museum you need to make ADVANCE reservations. Gloucester and rockport are the premium spots for a comfortable hot summer getaway in Massachusetts."
