Alternatively, make your way to Ambleside (3 miles) to see its historic 17th-century Bridge House and witness the natural wonder of Stock Ghyll Force. Or take a leisurely stroll through Hawkshead's cobbled streets (7.5 miles) to visit the poet William Wordsworth's former school. You can also visit the National Trust's Hill Top – the home of author Beatrix Potter.

Pull up in your private parking area and head into this quintessential country retreat. On your right, you'll find a sophisticated dining room which opens into a peaceful reading room. The views of the garden and fells are gorgeous. To your left, there's a relaxing lounge with a beautiful wood burner and Smart TV – perfect for cosy movie nights together.
