Another excellent stay at the Petwood Hotel
We have stayed at the Petwood Hotel before, in order to join a friends party. We loved it so much that I treated us to a room overlooking the garden. It was well worth the extra money, as there was a raised area with a lovely table overlooking the gardens as well as the huge size of the room itself. The history and atmospheric quality of the hotel is superb and the local area is fabulous, especially for walks or cycling. Treat yourself to Sunday lunch if you can as a fabulous pianist called Helen plays from midday till 3pm. The staff were all very special and they all ensured that our stay was very comfortable.

Lovely Christmas treat with Friends
Perfect from start to finish. Christmas night out with 2 friends.Friendly staff and everything very well organised. Had three course meal in the evening could not find fault with anything, excellent service, excellent reasonably priced food. Breakfast again spot on, lots of staff looking after guests, all pleasant polite and smiling. Would definately recomnend and will be back.

There is somhow a background noise from the ventilation 24/7, very disturbing. Also, someone staying in a room above me was up slammed with something at 03.30am and woke me up.

Beautiful old hotel set in stunning gardens - the building is authentic from the time it was built, still very comfortable and clean and it was charming. Lots of interesting history from when the hotel was built and into the wars - fabulous place

Average at best
Our main reason for visiting was the hotel’s association with 617 squadron. We didn’t expect or want the amenities of a modern hotel. However, three particular things resulted in our average rating: The dinner menu was limited and the food served “average” at best. There was an over officious guard on duty at the entrance to the bar. Even guests were compelled to register with the guard. We tried to order liqueurs and coffee in the bar at just turned 10 pm. We were told coffee was not available because the staff go home at 11pm and needed to clean the machine before they left. How long does it take to clean a coffee machine?

Great stay

Hotel with good service and history
Excellent hotel. Menu was not exensive(all day menu) but what we had was very good. We were visiting the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight museum and the hotel was perfect as they had a room of memorabilia there of 617 squadron

Grand and historical place to stay.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, room was lovely, warm and comfortable, we had a good nights sleep and the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The house and the grounds coupled with the history behind the building make for an amazing and most pleasurable stay.

The hotel was very nice, however bar and restaurant service was slow at times. We had an issue with the shower in our room but this was resolved to our satisfaction.

A rather odd stay. The building exterior is fabulous and it’s history is long and interesting. The room was fine and had everything needed except air conditioning and a bathroom fan that didn’t sound like a jet engine. What was troublesome was that we felt a little like second-class customers. There was a nice dining room with nice crisp tablecloths. We didn’t get in there. We dined in an adjacent room where we ate to the tune of a two year old playing video games on a mobile. No tablecloth, no style, no elan, no care. The food was however was competently executed & tasty. After, to avoid the child, we asked if there was a lounge where we could have after dinner drinks. We were shown to a room and our guide told us that someone would come to take our order. No one did. We went and found another staff member who told us someone would be with us directly. Still nobody came. My wife then went and found the first guy who said that he would get someone to come. Some time later someone did come but by then we had lost enthusiasm. Next morning we again don’t get in the dining room with the crisp tablecloths for breakfast. Down in the under room we get directed to a table between two access points to the room. We have people & staff walking through on either side of us. We have tablecloths though, but they are unironed and not crisp. Breakfast is ok, tea is good and the waitress that delivered was helpful. We left feeling poorly treated. At the price paid we expected much more.

All points raised, have been taken up by our Operations Manager. We have had to loose a lot of tables in the restaurant with the restrictions and we use the drawing room as an additional restaurant. You comments about not having crisp table cloths on your table, the Operations Manager is looking at clothing the tables in this room too. I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Petwood Hotel in the near future.

A wonderful historic hotel
The Petwood Hotel has a fabulous history and that tradition echoes throughout the hotel. It is especially wonderful for anyone with a passion for the RAF and the 617 "Dambuster" Squadron. But anyone would enjoy the period style of this hotel. The staff were all excellent throughout our stay and the food was superb. Add to this the very easy parking and acres of beautiful gardens to make it a perfect place to stay.

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff and probably the cleanest hotel we've stayed in. We've stayed in some of the best hotels in the world but with exception of a sensible dinner menu this hotel deserves a lot of stars. A great weekend

Brilliant overnight stay
This is not a modern hotel as it’s a period historical building and gardens with a fantastic tribute to the RAF including the legendary Dambusters 617 squadron. Although a more limited menu due to the current situation all of the good we had for dinner and breakfast was superb. Covid secure and operating safely

Disappointing...very disappointing!!
We were disappointed by reception and the girl who handled our pre booked dinner reservation. They were unaware of the need to look after customers and Covid 19 precautions seemed to be the entire responsibility of guests who were by and large confused by them. Some of the staff need to understand their effect on guests. Very poor!

Lovely but overpriced
Beautiful building. A little bit tired in places, but maybe hasn't much attention this year due to covid? Gardens are the same. Wouldn't take much for it to be great. We felt it was overpriced for what it was. We paid the extra for the executive room but didn't feel it was worth the extra £50. We were supposed to have robes & slippers but these weren't in the room. Possibly due to covid but surely the price should be reduced if you're not getting all of the amenities? Had dinner in the restaurant but wouldn't again. The food was only luke-warm when it arrived at our table. Very expensive for what it was. Breakfast was lovely but did seem a bit rushed. Covid avoidance measures were absolutely fine, no complaints there. Everywhere clean & tidy and plenty of hand sanitiser about. All staff (with the exception of the waitress at breakfast) were lovely. So, generally an ok place but definitely overpriced.

The hotel is furnished to a high standard and good value for money. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Food is good and plenty of free onsite parking. Well worth staying if you have an interest in the history of the RAF.

The location and gardens are lovely. However on arrival we asked about getting a drink and were directed to the 'Residents Lounge' as you have to book a table in the bar. When we got to the 'residents lounge' we were informed that the bar was closed for an event. If it was not for one of the members of staff who offered to find us a table we would not have been able to get a drink from the bar. I get that there are restrictions due to Covid-19 but don't block out the residents lounge withough there being somewhere else for residents to go! The room was lovely, although maybe a little updating may not go amiss, it was functional. The bathroom was small but clean and tidy. The evening meal was ok but nothing special. The breakfast however, was not good. We waited 45 minutes to get out cooked breakfast, and probably a good 10-15 minutes just to get our orange juice/tea/coffee. Again I appreciate that things need to be done differently because of the pandemic, but would it not be a good idea to have a member of staff on who goes around and ensures everyone has their drinks in a timely manner. The breakfast when we got it wasn't particularly warm, and as it took so long to get it we couldn't be bothered to send it back. One of the fried eggs was not good properly, and the toast (which came with the teas/coffees) was cold. All in all the location is lovely but we won't be rushing back to this particular hotel.

I would give this hotel a rating between 3 and 4. The hotel building is lovely, it is a former country retreat of a baroness. The grounds are also beautiful, I felt that the surrounding gardens could be maintained a little better. If you like military history, definitely stay here as it was the home of the 617 Dambusters squadron during WWII. As for COVID implementations, they have a one-way system in place and you are required to wear masks in the building. I booked a standard room which was nice and clean. We didn't have much of a view, our windows looked out to the bins which was a little disappointing. I like to sleep with the window open and it was quite noisy late at night outside our room which woke me up. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, prices were very reasonable for a hotel. The food was nice and the service was good. We also had breakfast in the hotel, it costs £15 pp and you get tea/coffee/juice and then something from the cold and hot options. If you just want a coffee and a yoghurt, the breakfast isn't worth it. However, if you get a full English, coffee, juice and a pastry, then its worth it. On check out, the reception did try and charge me an extra £30, which was incorrect. Make sure you always check your bill and work out your charges as hotels do make mistakes. Overall, I think that I would stay here again, I am perhaps nitpicking a little in my review.

I am sorry you were distributed during the evening, I will advise the Duty Manager about the noise you experienced. If you do return to the hotel, why not stay in one of our Executive rooms that have a garden view, these overlook the restored Harold Peto gardens. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Hotel with Charm and Character
Lovely characterful property with beautiful gardens. Dam Busters Bar and memorabilia worth seeing. My room was a little noisy due to creaky floors and thin walls in what is a charming old building. Good food despite limited menu due to coronavirus.

Was playing in golf tournament. Lovely location. Nice traditional Looking Hotel. Nice friendly staff. Good food. Good value. Looking forward to staying again.
