"Manager and staff were super friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious. Traditional sleeping mat was very comfortable and I probably got my best night's sleep while on this trip. Walls are a little thin, but all guests were quiet and respectful of others. Baths looked great but unfortunately didn't get to use them. With size 15 feet I wouldn't expect any of the hotel slippers to fit. We had excellent meals within a 5 minute walk. Really enjoyed Yamanouchi!"

"Wonderful hospitality, with a historic, step back in time feel. The most kind host who runs the ryokan as the 3rd descendant of the family - it was begun by his grandfather. The property is dated with rough edges but it is a great option at a good price. The town is a sleepy but the few small restaurants we found were so good and cozy. "Rooms were clean, towels and japanese robes replaced each day. The onsens were clean, the outdoor one was usually empty, just for me. The gentleman at the reception was accommodating to us and gave us a few rides from the hotel to different locations (station, monkey park). "

"We stayed at Ichinoyu Katei for one night and had an excellent experience. Futons were very comfortable, the breakfast in the morning was in the traditional Japanese style. There are two areas on the upper floor (gender-separated) with two hot baths, one indoors and one outdoors in each area. We were given the key to visit the town's public baths. The staff were very friendly and took care of us. They do speak sufficient English. Would definitely stay again."

"We were here for a couple of days and had a wonderful stay! The place is kept clean, and it sits right by the ski hill. Nothing beats a soak in the hot public bath after a day of skiing. Also loved the breakfast and dinner! The gem though was the staff, who were incredibly friendly and went out of the way to help us. "
