Small corner stores provide daily necessities while locals maintain traditional customs and rhythms.

San Pedro

Morning cockerels and church bells create a peaceful soundtrack for your day. The area preserves Indigenous Nahua culture in daily life. This residential haven serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions like El Tepozteco pyramid. Local families occasionally open their homes as small guesthouses or serve homestyle Mexican meals. Though commercial amenities are minimal, the mountain setting and genuine cultural immersion more than compensate.
Santo Domingo
The Santo Domingo area in Tepoztlán centers around its magnificent 16th-century church and ex-convent. Colonial stone buildings with red-tile roofs line narrow cobblestone streets where Nahua artisans create traditional pottery and textiles. Religious ceremonies and cultural events showcase the area's unique blend of Indigenous traditions and Spanish colonial influences. Visitors can explore the Tepoztlán Museum Carlos Pellicer Collection housed within the historic complex. Local workshops offer authentic crafts directly from makers at moderate prices. The peaceful atmosphere is occasionally punctuated by church bells and the earthy aromas from pottery studios.

San Miguel
San Miguel showcases Mexico's rich cultural tapestry in the heart of Tepoztlán. This welcoming area blends colonial charm with Indigenous Nahua traditions around its historic central plaza. Dramatic cliffs crowned by the ancient El Tepozteco pyramid create an unforgettable backdrop. The 16th-century Ex-Convento dominates the area with its impressive stone walls. Local markets burst with handcrafted textiles, obsidian jewellery, and aromatic copal incense. Nearby trails lead through Tepozteco National Park, offering spectacular mountain views and natural swimming holes for adventurous travellers.

Top Tepoztlán Hotel Reviews
Hotel Amomoxtli
"My husband and I came to this very special hotel for our last day of our honeymoon after a week in Mexico City. It was the perfect escape, and we were welcomed by incredible staff. Special thanks to Edgardo and Antonio who made our trip soooo memorable- we know you read this now so hola to you! We can’t wait to come see you again, your smiles and kindness have touched our hearts."
La Buena Vibra Wellness Resort & SPA
"Very relaxing atmosphere, yoga was awesome."
Casa Tepoztlán
"Lo mejor de todo son las personas que ahí trabajan. Muy gentiles y serviciales todos."
Hotel Real del Valle Tepoztlan
"We were looking for a hotel for the night after our tequila tour because we did not want to drive drunk. This hotel is a bit pricey for our budget, but it was worth it. The tasty cocktails when you check in, the beautiful and clean swimming pool, the modern rooms, the super friendly staff, and you are right in the middle of the tequila distillery zone. You can smell the sugars of the agave! We loved the magnificent rubber trees on the grounds. The hotel will try to sell you a Tequileña tour--the hotel is actually owned by the distillery. We hearily recommend booking a tour of the artesenal Fortaleza distillery just around the corner. It was excellent. Be sure to get to book a room facing the courtyard--distillery noise affects the city-facing rooms"
Posada del Tepozteco - Hotel & Gallery
"Excellent service, amazing views and beautiful property"
Hotel Boutique Casa Fernanda - Adults only
"Once we arrived at Casa Fernanda we had spoken to the front desk about our prior experience that left us with a bad taste in our mouth, hoping to prevent us from eliminating such a beautiful place in the future. After giving this property another chance we found ourselves enjoying every aspect of the hotel, especially the special birthday treats from the chef. As we travel the world we share our stays with others just as this was shared with us. Thank you for ensuring that history did not repeat itself and for the wonderful hospitality that we hope to have in the future as well. Special thanks to Mayra, Esmeralda, Yomey, and the valet gentleman that assisted us with our bags during check in and check out!"
