This beautiful barrier island off Florida offers white-sand beaches, a wide range of watersports and plenty of dining and entertainment.

Visit Siesta Key for pristine beaches with soft white sand. Explore the natural beauty of this 8-mile (13-kilometre) island by renting a bike, kayak, paddleboard or even a Segway. Many of Siesta Key’s attractions and activities centre around Siesta Key Beach. Its powdery white sand is mostly made of quartz, which means it stays cool underfoot even on the hottest days. The water is shallow near the shore and there are lifeguards year-round, making it a great beach for families with young children. If you prefer more rugged terrain, visit Point of Rocks at the island’s southern end. Climb the sea wall, keeping an eye out for local wildlife, or go fishing and shelling. A little further along is Crescent Beach, a good place to rent some equipment and go paddleboarding, jet skiing or snorkeling. You can also rent a boat for the day at the Siesta Key Marina. When you’d like a change from all the water-based activities, rent a bike, Segway or scooter from one of the local operators and take a tour of the area. Visit Siesta Key Village on the north end of the island. It has souvenir stands and specialty boutiques offering the latest in beachwear as well as bookstores and a range of dining options. Most visitors to Siesta Key prefer to rent a car or bring their own. If you aren’t driving, you’ll find that many areas are pedestrian friendly, and a trolley service is available. When deciding where to stay, take your pick from a wide range of accommodation with everything on offer from campgrounds to luxury hotels. No matter where you decide to stay though, call ahead to book as the area gets very busy, particularly in summer.
