With its location along the pristine Spokane River in the heart of northern Idaho’s forested countryside, Post Falls is a great place to relax and appreciate nature. Enjoy water sports on the river and hike into the surrounding mountains for rock climbing.
Rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the Spokane River. Hike along the shore and bring binoculars to see osprey nesting in the trees. At Falls Park, observe man’s conquest of nature via three dams generating power from the river. Watch for fish jumping at the Post Falls Dam Spillway. In summer, the river is warm enough to jump in. Q'emiln Park has lifeguards and is particularly good for swimming and hiking. Take a cruise in one of the larger boats on nearby Lake Coeur d’Alene or the St. Joe River.
About a 30-minute drive north of town, visit Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach. Spend the day enjoying 70 rides, slides and roller coasters as well as a water park and steam engine train. Have a family competition at the Corbin Park Disc Golf Course or play traditional golf at the Highlands Golf Course.
Check to see what events are scheduled at the Jacklin Arts and Culture Centre. You may be able to see an art show or concert or take a cooking class. July brings the thrilling Idaho 200 stock car race to Stateline Stadium Speedway.
For a unique tour, visit the Buck Knives factory. Bring kids 7 years and older and be sure all visitors have closed shoes.
Fly or travel by Amtrak train to SpokaneOpens in a new window, Washington. Then rent a car and drive 30 minutes along the Spokane River to reach Post Falls, just over the Idaho/Washington border. Once here, find waterfront accommodation on the river. Relax and let your stress and worries float away with the river current.
