Value for the money but ditch the signs

Price was very low, especially given the circumstance: near to the total solar eclipse on the night before. Getting checked in was difficult as the hotel did not have 24-hour desk service, but the hotel made accommodations knowing we would be in around midnight. Our interaction with staff was pleasant. At the front desk and in our rooms, there were signs threatening additional charges and even prosecution for "violations" such as making noise, having guests in our room, or putting our trash in the wrong containers. I think it was just bluster. The facility was old but well maintained and very clean. The wi-fi and appliances worked well. The hotel was a bit hard to find late at night.

We left and didn't stay here. The room smelled like cigarettes and had not been updated in quite some time. The furniture was very old. We did not feel safe here.

Not given password for internet, no one around to ask. Kitchen utensils: Only one butterknife, a toddler spoon, and a couple spatulas. Not even plastic available. No lamp or clock at bed, only light was a ceiling light. Inappropriate writing on wall in closet. No blanket - only sheet and very light bedspread.

This is the perfect don't judge the book by its cover situation. The location is not the best. Kind of a warehouse district. But the folks who run it are very nice and my apartment/room was very nice and clean. Other than the looks of the location, the proximity to great food, easy shopping was perfect. I had a problem with my door lock and they were very diligent in getting it fixed. Would definitely stay here again.
