"For the price this old school hotel is a gem. It’s right on the water with its own balcony and Lake Michigan view. You can walk on the beach to the main beaches of downtown Algoma. There are fire pits and chairs scattered around the property. Rooms are dated but clean and comfortable. There is endless coffee in check in/lobby area that is better than most hotel offerings. Staff was very helpful and friendly."
Epic Lake Michigan Bluff Home 2-Acre + Heated Pool
10/10 Excellent
"This house had everything! So many thoughtful amenities for families! We had an amazing time using the pool, talking around the patio fire and drinking morning coffee overlooking a lake view! Plenty of everything! All the furniture was super comfortable and the host was super responsive with our questions! A great place to make memories with a large group!"
"We enjoyed a wonderful week at Hidden Shores Cottage. The cottage was clean, neat, and well stocked upon our arrival. Even though there are neighbors close by, with the beautiful trees outlining the property borders, it truly feels like you are alone and isolated from the world. The three season room was by far our favorite place in the property. The unobstructed view from this room was unbelievable. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. We used the gas grill which had a full tank of gas for our stay (I guess we were lucky on that account because, the description clearly states, they are not responsible to keep these filled). The outdoor furniture was so comfortable. We especially enjoyed mornings and evenings sitting by the shoreline watching the water, boats off shore and a couple of beautiful sunrises.
I cannot say enough about the adventure shed. The supplies and equipment available are just amazing. Fishing gear, bikes, beach supplies (sand supplies, beach chairs, coolers, etc.), outdoor games, there were even a couple of zero gravity chairs that we used. There was equipment to air bike tires, and floats. Again, just about anything you might want was in that shed and in good condition, ready for us to use and enjoy.
We did not use the kayaks, as we are seniors, and the ability to move them down the rocky incline seemed like something we should not attempt. We traversed the rocks for swimming, which was great, nice sandy lake bottom, but be aware the shoreline, in my opinion, is steeper than depicted in the pictures. Good for adults, but not good for small children. Luckily, they let us bring a small kiddie pool, so the grands enjoyed that (bring your own hose). Also, the play yard equipment was a wonderful addition that the kiddos loved.
Another note, the storage in the bedrooms is very limited, but we were able to utilize the ample space in the living area for access to our personal items, clothes, etc.
We appreciated being on the east side of Door County, it was much less touristy but equally as beautiful as the west side. This location is easy access to Algoma and Sturgeon Bay. We also enjoyed a drive one day up to Jacksonport, and Bailey’s Harbor. Luckily, we chose a Tuesday and happened upon the Farmer’s Market in Jacksonport. Don’t miss a visit (or multiple, in our case) to Wienke’s Market, just a mile or two from this property!
I highly recommend Hidden Shores if you want to escape from the world and enjoy a quiet, peaceful stay along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan."
