Excellent facilities, excellent food, particularly the Indian restaurant. Friendly and obliging staff. Superb beer garden and good well kept ales.
Stairs and landing carpet could do with a makeover, other than that excellent.
A friendly hotel with helpful staff. Five minutes from the beach. The food was good, too

Plus points: Excellent location. Quirkiness. Excellent cooked breakfast.
In the process of being refurbished - comfortable at the moment, but needs redecorating.

Helpful staff, Great breakfast and comfortable room. Martin was very accomodating.
The hotel was being renovated. Our room was in the process of updating and was not ready to be let out. It had clean bed linen, but needed a thorough clean not just top dusting. It was understaffed with the few staff trying to do everything and failing.
I could list all the faults which are the same as previous reviews. The main problem was that all the electric appliances were run from a multiplug, including the kettle, the TV and an old convector heater brought into the room as the radiators didn't work.
Unfortunately this was a last minute booking and we were unable to go elsewhere, so had to stay. To be fair the staff were pleasant and helpful when we asked for anything and did sort out an overcharging issue discovered when we arrived home but they were totally overwhelmed with trying to renovate and run a hotel at the same time.

Fairly good if you want a well priced decent bed for the night, perfect we stayed whilst playing golf in the area. Pretty good to be fair
The stay was just for overnight on way to Edinburgh. The hotel itself ok but the town was cute walkable and right on the North Sea. Found a great pub and then a restaurant for an amazing dinner. The hotel did live up to the haunted tales as we did experience something paranormal but not scary.
Very friendly wecolme, room was lovely and clean, breakfast was adequate to set you out for the day, staff was very polite and helpful

Friendly staff. Good food. Clearly there are some issues regarding the management if the hotel as the decor was tired, some things like the bathroom extraction did not work and it was evident that underneath the beds had not been cleaned in a long time. But overall the stay was pleasant. Overpriced for what you get.
Our room is not too clean. A unclean teaspoon was left on the bathroom sink upon check in. No rubbish bin inside the toilet. No toiletries, so you must bring your own toiletries. No fresh toilet rolls were given to us.
We were offered breakfast when we checked in so we bought breakfast for 2 adults & 2kids. We didn’t get a clear breakfast timing when we asked. So on check out day, we check out at around 10:30am and asked for breakfast. We were told no more breakfast is served, so then I asked for a refund as I bought it separately. I was told that no refund for that, they offered sandwich & cereals. We were given 2 slices of toast instead, 2 cereals. I paid £39.50 for that. It would have been better if we were refunded for that breakfast. But they insisted they’ll make sandwiches but no sandwiches were served. I don’y have high standards when it comes to hotels/hotels but this experience is just too disappointing.

Breakfast was not available.
Room & bathroom was clean, bed comfortable.
Very few other guests.
Plain but comfortable room. Bar and restaurant areas exceptoinally and clean and well organised and a credit to the staff; who were welcoming, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile. Food was beyond expectation; this is great place to eat; and takeaways seem to be very popular.
Had a great stay here . All my needs were catered for . Room was clean and well laid out . Dinner was tasty. The room was quiet at night and I slept very well. All topped up with a full English breakfast before heading on my way

Schooner Hotel
It was extremely clean ,room well equipped, but avoid dining there. The meal was inedible and overpriced. It felt like Fawlty Towers!
Hotel is in need of repair, room so ok beds were comfy our biggest issue was no hot water to have a shower in the morning looking at previous reviews this has been an issue for a while.
Value for money !
Ok the hotel shows its age in places, but our room was very clean, the bathroom had recently been refitted and was excellent
The manager "Sam" could not of been more helpful and friendly
Highly recommend the Indian restaurant, which is partnof the hotel, probably the best curry I've every had !
I don't understand why the previous reviews were so negative. I've stayed in various hotels all over the world and this one was perfectly fine. Room was clean, bed comfy, bathroom clean and power shower worked great. Manager didn't speak great English, but once we got chatting, he turned out to be a really nice guy.
