Captains hideout is a fantastic Outer Banks getaway. Perfectly located on Pamlico Sound quiet, beautiful sunsets and still close to anything u could want on Hatteras Island. We would book this place again in a second when we return. It was everything we wanted in our stay and more.

Spring in OBX

We enjoyed our stay at Captains. The house was very comfortable and clean. A perfect set up for a small family or two couples. Sunset views from the private beachhead are fantastic.

Avon vacation

Captains Hideout was everything we hoped it would be- quiet, great views and just perfect for the four of us. House was very comfortable and well supplied with the essentials. We would definitely go back there.

Summer Family Vacation

The location was absolutely stunning! The house was perfect for us. There were a couple of things that needed fixing, but we still loved our entire vacation! Can't wait to return to Hatteras Island next summer.

Amazing get away

We left to celebrate to find out our hometown in WNC was wrecked by hurricane Helene but Karen was so accommodating and understanding and made the stay as comforting despite all the stress back home. The house was so clean and so cute and the dogs enjoyed themselves too. Def stay here you won’t regret it ! Kind host with the most that’s for sure !

Home Away From Home

House was very nice and couldn’t beat the location. Sound and private beach were just a small walk away. The beaches were close by and not too crowded. The views from the second floor of the sunset were beautiful. The owner was extremely responsive. We brought our two dogs and had a great time! Would highly recommend!!!

Excellent location!!!

Karen has a WONDERFUL place that’s got to be one of the best locations in the area. It’s super quiet, very private feeling, the sunsets are AMAZING, the wrap around porch always has a shady spot to relax. The house was wonderful! I don’t have any negative thing to say. We stayed a week and never wanted for anything. If we ever go back to the OBX we will definitely be looking to stay here again during our stay.

Karen is an amazing host that is excellent at communicating and making you feel super welcome. Captains Hideout is absolutely amazing, there is so much time and detail that has been put into this place to make it so magical and special. The pictures do not do it justice. It was the perfect location for a wonderful vacation. I hope we can make it back again one day.

Beautiful sound views

We enjoyed our stay at Captain’s Hideout! It’s a nice home with sound views from almost everywhere including the upstairs shower! There’s a lot of nice extra touches like bikes and SUP boards and nice seating areas on different decks! The neighborhood was quiet and I enjoyed riding the bike to explore! It was rainy so there were a lot of mosquitoes, so have spray! We didn’t let it stop us from having a great week!

Amazing Spot

We spent a long weekend at Captain’s Hideaway with our pup. What a great house. Karen is a great communicator, the house is well stocked with everything that you would need. The decks off the second level are great for enjoying a view of the sound or stargazing at night. Our dog was very happy with the fenced in back yard and the tennis ball that was there for her to play with. I highly recommend the property.

Excellent Spot

Had a great, short vacation here. Neighborhood is extremely quiet/peaceful, it's a good setup for dogs, and you have a great spot for watersports right out back. I was able to get out and wing a couple of days. Depths were enough once you got the feel for the area and couldn't ask for much more as far as launch spot and having space to yourself. House is very comfortable and has everything you need. Little beach would be awesome for a fire if winds cooperate.

Captain's Hideout is where he buried the treasure!

In 30+ years coming to OBX, this was our very favorite house, especially since it was just the two of us (there are only two - really great - bedrooms. Well off the beaten track in Avon on the sound side. A wonderful house with amazing antiques, lots of plants and flowers, very comfortable furniture inside and out, wrap-around decks, and especially nice for the chef - a propane gas cook top. We cooked a lot of great seafood! Our host, Karen, could not have been nicer or friendlier. We loved it there.

Peaceful Stay on the Sound

My wife and I, along with our dog, stayed at this cute house on the sound over Memorial Day weekend. The house was nice and clean when we arrived. There was plenty of space on the wrap around decks to spread out and enjoy the beach air. Our favorite part was the private beach where we made fires and watched the sunset over the sound every night. The house is tucked back in the a neighborhood on the sound side, but it’s only a 5-10 minute bike ride to get to the Avon Pier and the shops along the main road.

Amazing times

A winner, all around. Safe, cozy, welcoming house. The house had everything we needed, and if we needed anything else…the store is right down the road. The host was available and responsive at all times. We ate in most nights, had things to do in the house at all times. Dog friendly and the pups had a blast! Try low maintenance on clean up, beds comfortable, highly recommend…but don’t take our weekend next year!!! Haha

Great help during a storm

Karen was helpful, caring, knowledgeable, and supportive during a tropical storm. Her guidance helped us to make the decision to stay which worked out very well. She kept in touch with us and directed our movements when necessary. The house is beautiful, warm, and comfortable. We were in want for nothing.

This is stay #2 at the Captain's! Our stay was just as lovely as the first - peace & quiet, serenity of the private beach, sitting by the fireplace, stargazing & seeing a few shooting stars - it cannot be beat. Enjoying the fire-it on the private beach and riding the beach cruisers, too. Sneaking suspicion we'll be back a third time in 2024. The Captain's is quickly becoming our home away from home. Love Captain's

I love Captain's! It's an amazing home on an amazing island with the best Host! I've said it before, and I'll say it again Karen's is like my home away from home. It's the perfect home with two great bedrooms with the comfiest King size beds that both have nice large bathrooms attached. Every possible item you might need or want in the kitchen and throughout the house and even more amenities for outdoor pleasure such as bikes, paddle boards, etc. The private white sand beach....should I say more?! FABULOUS!! I never stay anywhere else now!

View not what expected

The home itself was fine , however the smell of mildew was very prevalent , the best view of the sound is on the top bedroom deck however , the railings on that deck are very loose and dangerous . The view of the sound from the first floor deck is obstructed by foliage . Kitchen was well stocked . I doubt if we will be returning in the future .

Wonderful property, return visitors

This was our second time staying at this property as a family (32, 64, 66yo) and we loved it. The owner is kind, professional and communicative. The home is beautiful and well-appointed. Appliances/amenities were all functional and made for a very comfortable stay. We especially enjoyed using the beach firepit and dock for the (rented) kayaks. Recent construction next door was unexpected and persistently noisy, but not within the owners control. Consequently we spent more time at the ocean beach this year to avoid the noise, but sunsets from the dock or decks were still quiet/peaceful. Overall, we recommend the property to others.

Perfect Gat-away spot

This is a quaint modern 2 bedroom house with a full bath per bedroom, plus a powder room. It has everything you could need (except food). The owner has thought of everything from beach towels to bicycles to bug spray! It was impeccably clean and best of all pet-friendly. It house it's own private beach (with chairs and fire-pit) right on the sound! It's at the end of a dead-end road-sooo private. Decks on both levels and a gorgeous sunset every night! The owner answers any texts promptly if you have any need or question. A fenced in yard for you pup as well.
