Lovely property with amazing views! Quiet and safe location. The pool is kid friendly and the onsite restaurant has good breakfast options. The Wi-Fi is a bit spotty.

Excellent location right on the ocean and walkable to all the restaurants. The pool and chairs etc were also excellent. The hotel is quite dated and could use a refresh. There is no fridge in the rooms so be prepared to pick up a styrofoam cooler at the Oxxo! Staff were excellent here. We would stay again.

A fridge would have been appreciated. The double beds were too firm. Panoramic bay view, beach, beach access, pool, staff, restaurant, were all great! Would stay again in a King bed beach balcony room.

Cons The hotel rooms were not as expected. The rooms were not clean and bathrooms are outdated. We had 2 rooms and a suite. The ac in our suite did not work and started dripping at night. It filled a small trash cans several nights during our stay and was not fixed despite informing the front desk several times. The suite had a “kitchen” with a large fridge which was great but the stove was a tiny electric camping stove. Upon arrival we were also given a list of rules that were odd. The rules mostly revolved around not bringing food into the hotel rooms and pool area. Pros What saved the trip was the pool area. The pool was nice and clean and had plenty of shaded seating plus gorgeous views during sunset. Also, the lady at the bar was super nice and has menus available for drinks and food(food is brought from a beach club next door).

Beautiful sunset from balcony!

Our stay was only one night this trip. Check-in was smooth but the desk didn’t have an internet signal for its credit card payment so we paid cash to expedite the process. Our room had a beautiful ocean view and balcony. The room was updated, clean and welcoming. We would stay again and recommend it to others!

Beautiful location beside the beach. Great restaurant on site and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I especially appreciated the free coffee in the lobby every morning. Direct beach access is a bonus. Showers to rinse off and then a pool and bar with ocean views. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Gracias!

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Very close to restaurants and street vendors and able to walk anywhere in town. Loved the pool- it was very clean and water is warm. There is a small bar on site so we could enjoy a drink by the pool. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and felt very safe. There was construction during our stay, so was noisy at times. Our room was clean and water pressure in the shower was fantastic! Great value and very happy with our experience.

Like the hotel but it is not deluxe

We've been to Hotel Barra many times before. Always enjoy this family owned Mexican hotel. It is NOT deluxe (but neither is Barra de Navidad) so don't expect amenities. They do have a nice heated pool. Restaurant is still under construction after the last hurricane/tropical storm of 2023 destroyed it. This is an older Mexican beach town (so is nearby Melaque) so do not expect any glitz. Just enjoy the visit.

We loved the location. We stayed here last year and had a beautiful updated oceanfront room with very nice balcony. This year we opted for the efficiency with small kitchen. Not enough light and ver outdated. City view with balcony did not exist. Just window to the road. Go for oceanfront. Pool area is excellent. Marta was very nice.

Just a couple negative issues. Really dirty windows, did not want to open curtains. No wifi in bedroom of Studio suite. really badly stained terracotta floor and grout.

Not for me

Planned to stay 2 weeks, based on pics and good reviews. Was given a room on the street side, barred window, sidewalk outside, and vehicle grills all I could see. Was told by the really unhelpful woman at the desk that that was all there was. Stayed one night. Later found out there were other better rooms available. Glad I moved, found a lovely room right on the beach. Restaurant really good though.

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel itself however is a very old building in need of some serious face lift. Our room was "sea view", located in the second floor and it did not disappoint in this sense, bare in mind there is no elevator and access to top floors is not wheelchair friendly. The room itself was simple and a little cramped, the bathroom space is so tight that you may bump your legs with the side walls. Although we did not intent to make much use of the TV it did not work, after a few minutes of being turned on it would turn to a black screen, this was reported to the front desk, they mentioned they would fix it for future guests. The AC remote control was useless therefore we had to turn it on manually and all we could do is that since the only way to configure it is with the remote itself , because of this we were stuck with whatever settings were set for the AC from before. There is also a ceiling fan with wall controls that did not work properly, in order to get it to a decent speed we had to do it manually too by climbing to the bed and pulling the really short leavers. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in your room this is not the right place for you, there is a deluxe suite as they call it which the staff confirmed are the only rooms that have been renovated in recent years and that are probably the better option. The pool has a decent temperature and the pool area is cozy in general.
