Otherwise known as Downton Abbey! I have some friends who work on the stud farm next door to the castle, so we were able to get an amazing view from their paddocks. To start with we couldn't see a thing but at exactly the right moment the mist broke and the sun shone perfectly on the castle. There are plenty of public footpaths in the area too so getting a view like this shouldn't be too difficult. I use the View Ranger app in the UK to find footpaths that you otherwise wouldn't know were there. It's an awesome way to see bits of the countryside you wouldn't necessarily find otherwise. #England #Castles

“Easy to get to, tasty food. Evening staff both fab, morning person not as much. Bedroom and bathroom lovely size and biscuits/tea generous. Slept well, though the radiators were rather hot and I didn’t know how to turn them down. Evening food delicious but morning breakfast could have been better; toast came out cold. Breakfast is slightly weird in that it’s not a self-serve, you get drinks brought to you from the options you circled on a menu from the previous night. Parking was easy but……

“Friendly host, warm and cozy cottage atmosphere out on the country - very private and quiet too. The room was so nicely appointed and we loved the sound of the babbling stream outside. The bathroom was large and bright and had a big bathtub. Everything was so clean and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order each day. A wonderful spot away from the madding crowds but so close to so many beautiful places. ”

“Very basic hotel, check in was very limited with no info on hotel dining or other facilities. Not shown to the room and found no hand soap in bathroom. There was shower gel and shampoo. The room overlooked outside drinking and smoking area and could smell smoke if window open. All furniture was old and some pieces had been mended. Floor boards loose in some places. Admittedly the building is old and has character, but TLC required. ”
