"The room and facilities were very nice, breakfast was good. But the main reason for our very favorable review is how the entire staff and the owners were so helpful. They spent lots of time talking to us and had useful recommendations on what to do, where to go, what to eat, and in general gave a wonderful introduction to the area. Above and beyond what we have experienced at similar properties."

"Beautiful gardens. Well stocked. Extremely kind and helpful hosts. Very close to the silky black sands of Playa Negra. We loved walking to town on the beach. It is close to everything but also very easy to feel completely at rest and secluded. Very safe."

"My family of 5 stayed here for four days in mid-June. The only regret we have is that we didn't stay here longer!! Communication was great, chech-in was seamless. We arrived when it was dark, and didn't have any issues. We were able to park two SUVs in the driveway. A third car would not fit. This home is enclosed in a 13-15 foot fence around the property. It felt extremely safe. The backyard looks like something straight out of a magazine!! We found 4 iguanas in the trees on the property, and had all sorts of birds visit. Living so close to the jungle you also have some insect critters inside the house. To access the beach it's about a 7-10 min walk. You go out the sliding gate, turn right. When the road T's, turn left. About 15 feet to the right is a private gate. The walk takes you through super swampy parts.DO NOT stay on the beach past sunset. A local warned us that people get robbed. Remember, Costa Rica gets dark around 6 pm year round.The beach is beautiful, but not for swimming. The waves are crazy strong with riptides.There was one bath towel per person. More would have been nice. Beds are a little stiff, but that seems to be the norm in this country.The kitchen is well-stocked.We booked 3 massages through our host and they came to us at Villa Arragon. It was amazing!! Highly recommend going to The Sloth Sanctuary, The Jaguar Rescue Center, and snorkeling. We had such an incredible and memorable time. Thank you!!"

"We are a family of 6 adults and all immediately loved the space! The air conditioned rooms were perfect and we loved how they individually opened to the garden and pool area. We are from Colorado so we were concerned about the humid air but the fans in the outdoor space and the pool were great to keep us comfortable and a reprieve to the bedrooms at night to sleep were perfect. The location is great. We squeezed in a lot of fun and delicious food in a short amount of time. By the way, the kitchen is fantastic if you want to cook at home. We did grill one night but the restaurants were so delicious both in Puerto Viejo and Cuhuita we just kept going back to try more! We didn't have the need to contact the hosts very much but when we did, they were very responsive and helpful.We would absolutely return!"

"This hotel is beautiful. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The room was cozy and comfortable. The pool was relaxing. The food and drinks were great and I enjoyed the free breakfast. I loved how close I was to the black sand beach. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I look forward to staying here again in the future."

"Los anfitriones fueron muy amables y estuvieron siempre atentos a nuestras preguntas. El proceso de check in y check out fue muy fácil y rápido. La casa es muy bonita, tiene aire acondicionado en el cuarto principal, lo único que diríamos es que a la sala le hace falta iluminación, ya que es un poco oscura. Todo lo demás estuvo excelente, la casa está muy bien equipada y está ubicada en un muy buen lugar. Nos encantó que Héctor (el gatito) llegara, es muy juguetón y cariñoso. Muchas gracias!"
