DoubleTree Elk Grove is one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. I’m not usually picky, but the room was clearly not cleaned properly—dust was everywhere, and there was visible hair in the shower even though I hadn’t used it.
I tried calling the front desk and got no answer, so I had to go downstairs in person to report the issue, which was very inconvenient. On top of that, the layout of the hotel is odd—if you have luggage, be prepared to walk a long distance from the elevator to your room.
What made the experience worse was the $50 late checkout fee. I had asked for a 12:00 PM checkout and left around 12:30 PM, but was still charged. They said “no matter how late you are, even a minute, it’s $50”—which feels excessive and rigid, especially when housekeeping wasn’t even nearby.
Really disappointing experience, especially for a well-known hotel brand.
