"Breakfast choices were excellent. The buffet has eggs over easy , scrambled plus ham,sausage too much to mention. Plus real fresh bread, cereals any kind of coffee and hot drinks plus juices! "

"Our stay was for a couple of days to attend a Wedding in Winchester. St John’s Croft is ideally placed within 5 minutes easy walk of the town centre, with on site parking at the property. The property is a lovely grand farmhouse, in a very quiet raised spot, considering how close it is to everything. The property has a lovey, relaxed, arty/boho feel to it, with a warm atmosphere. Our room had a large double and single daybed, two very comfortable armchairs, coffee table, lots of side lamps and a TV. A good powerful shower in our private bathroom, with lots of hot water was most welcome. Dotty cooked us a marvellous breakfast around a large communal kitchen table by the AGA. I would more than happily stay here again. Thank you. "

"I booked a single room as I was travelling solo and only staying for 1 night. Check in is in The Wykeham Arms itself and then I was shown across the street to my accommodation. I was on the top floor in a room named La Boite - something to consider if you have suitcases with you, it’s an old building with narrow, steep stairs. My room was perfect for a solo traveler - very comfy single bed, bathroom equipped with full sizes of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, hand lotion. Room amenities were a Nespresso machine with selection of coffee pods, coffee mug, kettle with selection of teas, tea cup/saucer, a fridge with fresh milk (no UHT rubbish here!) a big bottle of water and a full size Fullers London Pride (plus bottle opener) a dish of freshly made shortbread, TV, ironing board, hanging space, bedside radio. The windows had both blinds and curtains (as a light sleeper this was very much appreciated). An info folder contained lots of useful information if you don’t know Winchester, dinner and breakfast menus. I had a table booked for a group dinner (11 of us) which was in its own room, we were very well looked after, food was incredible (chef Luke Emmes is a very talented man) and the wine list extensive. The pub itself has a lovely, welcoming feel and is dog friendly. We all had a great evening. Breakfast is back in the restaurant area and again the food was delicious, good buffet or hot menu cooked to order. All the staff were lovely, I’d definitely stay again."

"It's such a shame! The building of the old Mercure hotel holds ok. The double room was spacious, clean, comfortable and with an amazing close view of the Winchester cathedral (practically over its grounds). But there was no milk for the tea in the room and the television did not show a single BBC channel (not even radio stations), had no access to satelite, internet or cable. When I called reception to ask if perhaps there was something I was not doing properly with the remote control, I was asked if the TV was showing other channels. When I said that only commercial channels seemed to be available, I was told that this was what was on offer and that's it. In some way, I'm grateful for the experience because it opened my eyes to how miserable life would be without the BBC service. I'll certainly pay the BBC licence with gusto now! "

"I loved this olde worlde hotel with its quirky characteristics like the uneven floors and the wonky staircase. I just had to take a photo of my bedroom door! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the food was delicious. "
