  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Family get away

We needed a family getaway. So we choose the perfect place to stay in. It was a literal 2 minute walk to kroger and a very peaceful neighborhood. Even though the bathtub looks a bit beat up from previous guests the whole redt of the house was great. The decor was all ohio state so my family absolutely loved it. One lamp didnt work in the dining room but it was still a cute decoration. Really loved the ohio state jenga and cards there for play to go along with our board games. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us to spread out as well with 3 flloors. Not good for a handicap person with a cane because there are lots of steps and no 2nd floor bathroom but we made it work. I will definitely stay with this host again. They provided clean linens and supplies for our personal use. They made sure the house was nice and cool upon entry and our checkin was nice and smooth. For my very first vrbo I say grade A! Thank you.
