We visited Le Terre Dei Cavalieri for four days during our honeymoon. We had decided to rent a car and visit the Tuscan countryside - we only needed a base of operation for our sightseeing. We did our background research, and chose this place since it looked beautiful in the pictures, and had received amazing reviews. Neither the pictures, nor the reviews were wrong, this place was an absolute gem. The room was clean, spacious, and had to my wifes pleasure a lion paw bathtub. The staff was very friendly and polite, but not in any way too much. Breakfast was almost of the same standard as the one we had at our previous stay, at a four-star luxury hotel in Florence. The dinner menu was changed every day, and contained very affordable (just over 20 Euro for a three course meal), simple and local dishes - and they were delicious. If you want to dine somewhere else, the spectacular hillside town of Cortona is just 8 km away - i recommend you try the restaurant La Bocaccia. However, the best thing about the Retreat is the place itself. Surrounded by sunflower fields, this historical site has endless picturesque views in almost all directions, still close enough for a walk to the local village. The garden with fruit trees and grapes (just feel free to pick) spells tranquillity and is the perfect place for relaxation and self-meditation - or a cooldown in the pool. We could not have picked a better spot for our visit to Tuscany and, if it is possible, will surely return.
