No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you prepare well enough. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Oxford holiday started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be easy if you take the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare set of clothes and something to read. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your laptop, a charger, medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your trusty pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as spray paint, flares and strong acids, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your main priority is to feel as comfortable as possible. Go for flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, natural fibers and don't forget to take a sweater in case it gets chilly in the cabin.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.
