Alfred House is affordable luxury

We had 3 generations together in this beautiful 5 bedroom house. It was exactly as described! We booked and received back detailed suggestions for rental cars, chefs and things to do on the island! All of it was useful and we took benefit of all! The island offers plenty to see and do but honestly if you just stayed on the property, you would afford yourself a week of relaxation pool and beachside! The kitchen was well equipped with the basics. The provided beach towels were a great amenity! Everything was in good working order. The rental company and owner were very understanding when we sent word of a broken bowl. There is parking for 3 cars comfortably (our group had 2 SUVs and there was plenty of room for the chef to park. The town is easily accessible for groceries, restaurant and ice cream! Honestly- it is definitely on our list as a rental to revisit!

Time in Euleuthera with family

Reviewer Comments: The place is a little dated and needs some updates for stay, especially in the kitchen. More glasses, glasses for the beach, new blender etc. In addition, more beach towels (big ones) beach chairs, coolers etc. could be supplied. The pool was ok, but was turning color by the end of the week and was a little cool in temperature. Some more pool toys would be nice for families with children.

Great house for a large group with great views

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house fit our large family nicely!! Overall a great place to stay with a great beach right in front. We loved the island and being able to drive all around and explore. The Atlantic side was rough (due to weather) but you could drive to the other side to find calm water! The house could use a little work. A/C unit leaking in one of the bedrooms and the twins beds were pretty old. We also didn’t know the house had unfiltered water (which is somewhat normal there). But during the a few days it rained it was hard to get water from any store in town for drinking and you can’t drink or cook with the water.

Beautiful Location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Very nice house in a very nice location. We had a great stay. The house looks exactly like advertised and is in overall good condition. The doors (all of them) have rusted out hardware and all of the doors on the second floor are inoperable by any practical means, so don’t make plans that involve the upper deck or open upper floor.Driving to the house involves dirt roads that are encroached by hard brush, so if you rent a car, be warned as you will be responsible for scratches to the vehicle, but believe me, it is worth it for the very private location and Atlantic coastal beaches right outside the front door.The house is close to Governors Harbor, so even though the house feels secluded, it is mere minutes to amenities.We would definitely stay here again.

Amazing location!!

This house is adjacent to a very beautiful beach called French Leave which is one of the Top 10 beaches in Eleuthera. It’s a beach that’s approximately a mile and a half long, beautiful pink sand and great for walking and you’ll barely see people there. The house itself is a nice house nicely, though sparingly furnished. On the negative side the house does not have its own water supply and water has to be brought in by a truck and put in the tank so there is very little water pressure and if you want to take a shower it comes in little dribbles so don’t expect a good hot shower. Additionally, there is no hard lined phone service here nor Internet so both phone and Internet have to be through cell service which can be difficult. The house is in a remote location which we love because we enjoy the privacy and yet it is only around a five minute drive to a town where you can buy most of your groceries so we found the location to be delightful. Additionally being on the Atlantic Coast of Eleuthera it is often very windy so make sure to bring a windbreaker as even during the days the winds blow quite briskly.

Amazing House

The house was mostly as described. The refrigerator wasn't the one in the picture and both the fridge and stove had seen better days. They both worked but just made the kitchen look less upscale compared to the rest of the house. The house wasn't ready for our 4pm check-in which was a little disappointing after a long, hot day of travel, but we were able to put our groceries in the fridge while we waited. Had trouble getting the grill to light so might want to look into that. Could also use a net to clean the pool. Beware, the road to the house is very rough (pretty much off-roading) so rent the most rugged vehicle you can. And beware when the power goes out so does the water. We were prepared for the power but the water was an unpleasant surprise. Despite all that we would still stay again. The rest of the house was beautiful and comfortable. The view can't be beat. The ocean in front of the house was a little rough during our stay so we took the short walk to French Leave Beach for a calmer experience. We had a great time and would highly recommend this house especially if the appliances are updated.

Superlative property!

It is without hesitation that I highly recommend this property. We are frequent visitors to Eleuthera and love the GH area; much of the island can be quite remote. Alfred House is close to GH yet very private. No detail was overlooked in the construction of the house, and the kitchen is fully equipped. The bathrooms are spacious and finished to high standards. One of the members of our group commented on the lack of a sound system - we brought our own Bose so it wasn't an issue but is something to make note of should you stay at AH. The home is well-maintained and the grounds are lovely. We also rented the cottage on the property and enjoyed the added privacy and the cozy feel of the beach house. The mosquitoes prevented us from eating outside in the evenings, however this is typical of the islands. The access road is very rough, but again, typical for the area. There is a new resort that has opened in GH, French Leave resort, which has an excellent restaurant "1648". It is a nice addition to Tippy's which has long been the stand alone for dining in the area. We wore beach shoes and walked to Tippy's along the incredible French Leave beach - spectacular! A walk in the opposite direction brings you to Twin Coves beaches which offer calmer waters and better swimming options than the beach directly in front of the house. Alfred House is truly a beautiful property, thank you for sharing your home with us!

Terrible Property Management

We enjoyed the scenery. The property is big and spacious. The garden is really nice with palm trees and other plants. Our biggest concern was the bugs in the rooms, the road leading to the property, and definitely property management. We have notified Christine about the bugs. She ignored. The bugs came out at night and they were all over the beds, walls. It was some sort of nocturnal bug. They were harmless, but we had to move into another bedroom that didn't have as "many" and we had to move the kids into another room that didn't have as many. We asked for new towels and had to wait three days to get them. On top of waiting, we had to drive all the way to Christine's restaurant to get the towels. Don't let Christine manipulate you to spend money at her restaurant and if you do, make sure you have the exact amount because she will not give you change. There was a blood stain on one of the covers in the room as well as other stains. Probably need to get new comfort sets. Overall, we enjoyed the scenery.........

Perfect Week

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our group of 10 people couldn't have imagined a more perfect week. French Leave beach was gorgeous. We spent plenty of time on rafts in the shallow areas or just on the beach. There was good snorkeling right there (just south of the small one room cottage on property) if anyone wanted to do that. The morning walks were calm--hardly saw another person. We spent a decent amount of time at Twin Coves (walk up the road, but beware the dog at the round house) due to the good snorkeling there. We saw rays and turtles and tons of fish. Twin Coves was my favorite. The house was in wonderful condition. We had a chef come in one night and we ate out the other nights. We cooked breakfast and lunch each day. Kitchen was great. THe bedrooms were also very nice. The AC went out in our bedroom, but it wasn't enough to ruin the trip. We slept with the fan on and the door opened to the main room, so it wasn't too hot. The caretaker was easy to reach and responsive. There was nothing to be done about the AC until after we were gone due to the remote location of the island. Truly a wonderful home and the best location.

Not a vacation, too many avoidable issues

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We won’t return to Alfred House. Upon arrival we were unimpressed with the cleanliness of the home, dusty, and there was a cockroach in the kitchen. Ok it’s the islands, not terrible. Then, turn on the faucet and no water. Hours on day one spent waiting for two trucks to deliver water to the home, workers there, too stressful but by 9pm we had water. The following day another set of workers arrived and we were told they were diverting water to the little home on the property where other guests were staying as they ran out of water. Concerned of course about the status of water I was assured there was adequate water for our stay. Another stressful day. Thurs night we returned home from dinner out and no water again. More stress. Water returned after two more sets of workers came out by 1pm Friday. The one small TV in the home doesn’t work for even mirroring a movie so my family huddled around my laptop to watch a move at night together. The one staff member named MADDY was amazing and was responsive and helpful and had empathy for our situation and tried hard. The owner is in Canada and out of touch with the condition or preparation needed to deliver a vacation experience at the price she is charging. I would go stay at another home or French Leave resort for same price or better yet another island. We wish we could write something better as we have traveled extensively throughout the Bahamas, Turks and Caribbean but we won’t be back to Eleuthera.

Schmitt Family Vacation 2019

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was the perfect house for our family. Total of 6 adults and 4 children under the age of 13. There is no need to worry about anything. The housekeeper keeps in touch and if you have any problems Christine or her husband David are on it immediately. We did not even sign into the wifi until the last few days. The beach by the Old Club Med is beautiful and snorkeling is great but the water is a little rough. We found our favorite beach the last day. As you come out of the house go left and walk for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes or you can drive. it was perfect , a protected cove with a strip of beach that goes to a small island. Very calm for our 6 year old,(we were able to use floats to relax ) shallow but yet the island is surrounded by coral,so the snorkeling was great as well. We all said we wish we would have found this beach the first day. You can drive the car down if you want as there is a path to the beach. We go on vacation every year and the best compliment was when my son in law said this turned out to be his favorite.However if you are looking for someplace with lots of shopping and many restaurants, forget it. This is a fairly primitive island and soooo wonderfully relaxing.We ate lunch at Tippy's, we liked it there because we could also go down to the beach where they have cabana's and snorkel. So while some of us wanted to eat , some preferred just going to the beach.And some came and went. The breeze and the service was outstanding. Our big night out was dinner at 1648, it is a Marriott resort.(French Leave) Very expensive but we also had a couple bottles of wine.The food was exceptional there, so I guess it was worth it. Two of us went to Pascal's for lunch one day and I had the fish taco and being from Florida I am very picky about my fish taco's. These were great. I asked for them plain with no batter. They also have a pool there so if you have kids they can play in the pool while you relax and have lunch. Friday night fish fry ..GREAT AS W

Excellent rental in Eleuthera

My family of 9 had a great time at the Alfred House in Governor’s Harbor. The house was perfect for the 9 of us. 5 bedrooms worked perfectly for 2 couples, 4 teens, and 1 single person. 4 bathrooms worked ok, but bear in mind that the two double rooms upstairs did not have a bathroom on their floor. Kitchen and dining room were excellent, particularly the space at the dining room table and chairs. Living room sofas were great for hanging out. Of course, best feature was gorgeous semi-private beaches. The blue clear water was amazing, perhaps only topped by the pink beaches. Rental agency was easy to deal with and very responsive. They sent lots of useful information in advance concerning things such as rental cars, excursions and restaurants. Only warning I would give is that if you chose to hire one of the chefs, be sure to get a definitive price quote in advance. We had two different chefs cook for us. The one we got a quote from cost $200, while the other without a quote charged us $900.

Girlfriend Retreat in PARADISE

Reviewer Comments: One of my girlfriends helped me find this house and set up our trip - I had never been to the Bahamas and it was a 50th birthday celebration with my best friends and my 2 kiddos - I had an amazing time! The house was huge and fit us all very well - such a neat setting and the furniture was nice and comfy. We were not far from the grocery store and felt very secluded at the same time - just a stunning location and right next door to the old Club Med resort and therefore we had a mile of pink sand beaches to ourselves for the most part - just amazing!!! I am looking forward to visiting again soon! We were a little pre-season so not as much stuff was open or available, but it was still a terrific time for relaxing and spending quality time together.

Recommend finding someone to take better care of this property as it could be an amazing rental.

Magnificent House

The house and the location were awesome. Very relaxing There is a protected beach about 1/2 mile north. Everyone was very nice. Definitely go to Island Farm for provisions. Jimmies at the North Eleuthera airport seems to have the best price and selection on liquor. Harbour Island is a great day trip. The Bucaneer club was great as well as 1648. Very relaxing

Reviewer Comments: This villa provided the perfect getaway for our group of 3 adults and 7 teenagers. It was appropriately stocked with everything we needed included a sunlit deck for yoga in the morning and a covered porch for afternoon cocktails. Right on a secluded beach away from it all but good proximity to town. If you are coming from the US, don’t be surprised if the house managers solicit your support in collecting items of need. And make sure to ask for two (2) large 10 gallon+ jugs of drinkable water.

A great stay at a wonderful house

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Alfred House is a beautiful home with lots of charm. There is plenty of room and fit 4 adults 2 preteens and 2 kids perfectly. The kitchen is well equipped with most things you need. We only cooked breakfast and had take out with the other meals. It is an older home and the wood floors creak (it's part of the charm) and one of the twins rooms smelled very musty and wet. Besides that it really is a wonderful home. The pool is not heated but the kids didn't mind swimming after a day at the beach. It was nice to come back to the house after all day beaching and snorkeling and relax on the big sitting areas and talk about our day. The location is great with a beautiful beach right in front of the house and another gorgeous beach within a one minute walk. Snorkeling was good but a bit tough on windy days. There is really good snorkeling off the beach on the French Leave side by the house and the other side about a 10 minute walk down. We were there during Thanksgiving week during Covid restrictions and most restaurants were closed. You still could find take out food and went a couple times to La Bougainvillea to eat lunch and hang out at the beach and pool there. Christine, the house caretaker, was very responsive and helpful. Also, she made 2 dinners for us and delivered it to the house since everything closed at 6 pm. Both dinners were delicious! There is Wifi but it's spotty and it's not unlimited, we weren't on it much. They have a dvd player but it doesn't play blu ray and there was a smart tv but we were scared to use it in case we went over the limited wifi. But we really didn't miss it. Matt Simon, the property manager, really was helpful whenever I had questions before and after booking the house and answered all our questions very quickly. We would recommend him to anyone, very professional and knowledgeable. We definitely would recommend Alfred House to anyone looking for a big house in a great location in a gorgeous setting.
