"The Oakes hotel has a wonderful location and view of the falls. However, the property itself is pretty bare bones. The rooms are quite dated and show significant wear and tear. The housekeeping staff was seriously short staffed, so the rooms were not ready at the check-in time of 4 pm. The hotel also was suffering some damage from water, so they had to rebook a bunch of people to another local hotel.
The rooms have a fridge, but no coffee maker. They do offer coffee and hot water in the lobby only. The ice machines are located only on a few floors. Parking on site is priced at $50/night.
For the price, I would expect a little bit more in style of the room and comforts available. I understand, it's a tourist town, so money is going to fly out of my hands. I would not hesitate to stay for the view, but if you want a nice room, I will search elsewhere. It's pretty basic."
