Great little hotel off the beaten path near Gora Station. Easy enough to get around the Hakone are while also having some seclusion, not to mention the private Onsen and nice lounge area!
The Asante Inn is a beautiful small property. The staff were very kind and helpful. They provided good meals for breakfast and dinner (added charge), with many options. The staff gave us a short tour of the property when we checked in. The gardens are beautiful and the onsen was easy to reserve and very nice as well. My only complaint is the pillows are quite hard but that is a personal preference. Overall, great experience.
Its a little bit of a hike going to the inn so be aware not to bring big luggages. I did read the previous review and had only my overnight bag and that helps a lot. The inn itself is pretty clean, the staff were accomodating and I was able to book the private onsen. Its a nice place to relax after a long day of walking around hakone
All the Asante Inn staff were very friendly and helpful. Having meals available in the dining room/common room was wonderful after big days of travel and exploring. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Asante. Wonderful room and beautiful surroundings. Excellent staff who are all very helpful and friendly. Shoutout to Maya for all her help and making my stay at Asante very enjoyable! Would absolutely stay here again.
Has an onsen which every room could reserve once per day. Shuttle Service to Gora Station and breakfast(western or eastern style) could be setup the day before. Dinner was also available in the evening which is great when coming back late from hiking.
Great stay in this friendly guest house in Hakone. Recommended for the gardens, friendly atmosphere and private onsen experience. Lighting in the room was a bit harsh. Adding a bedside light would help.

This place is fantastic! The staff is super friendly, the food and drink on site is very good quality and extremely reasonably priced. Best of all, Onsen is so relaxing and wonderful. My family (including girls 10 and 12) loved our stay here. I’m not sure why this is called a hostel, that does a complete disservice to how incredible this place is. It’s more of a resort, but without the flashiness and price gouging. For instance, a beer here was actually cheaper than at the brewery itself and dinner was priced in line with what you’d get elsewhere in town.
We loved doing the Hakone loop from the inn and used the free shuttle service to get to the Gora station to start with the cable car.
We also really enjoyed the but kicker walk to coffee camp where their cappuccino and latte are just perfect.
Amazing stay! The staff were absolutely lovely, friendly and helpful. The rooms were really big and spacious, and had lovely views of the beautiful garden outside. The onsen was such a treat and made us feel super relaxed after a long day out. We also loved sitting in the lounge area where the fire was burning and chatting to other guests. Shared bathrooms were extremely clean! Highly recommended and will definitely be back.
Asante Inn is a charming guest house with very helpful staff. The Inn has a beautiful Japanese garden. There is a very peaceful area for sitting dining/drinking tea overlooking the garden. For extra fee the Inn has breakfast and dinner. It also has 2 private onsens the guests can reserve. The bedroom we stayed at was Japanese style, we slept on the floor. Overall we loved the peaceful tranquility and homey feel of this place. The staff gave us a ride to the train station after we checked out. We want to come back again.

It is placed in a quiet neighborhood which was nice, but a little far from convenience stores etc. I went by car, so there was no problem, they got Parking outside which was free. Everything was pretty good, staff was friendly, not a lot of guests which was nice, and the garden inside was insta worthy. Only thing was the shared bathroom, guess we can't do anything about that.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Pros: Beautiful garden, pleasant friendly staff, morning shuttle to train station
Cons: Our room (double bed with shared bath) smelled musty with an old, uncomfortable mattress. Public bath water was not hot. Poor value- worst room I've had in long time, yet paid more than other lovely accommodations we had elsewhere in Japan.
This is a clean, peaceful Japanese home. I felt comfortable and at home sharing the women's dorm and the house. The staff was friendly and helpful. The private hot onsen twice a day was peaceful and relaxing. There is a nice playroom for yoga, exercise etc and a nice chair massage. The owners thought of every detail to create a comfortable stay. The T bus stop is 7mins walk uphill. It's best to take it from Odawara station. A taxi from the Gora station was 800 yen. You can reserve a free shuttle to Gora in the mornings.
My family and I stayed here two nights just before Christmas. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The owner offers a shuttle bus during the morning hours to Gora Station, which is very helpful for getting to Hakone ropeway. Local restaurants were a bit unaccessible as it was off-season but this inn has its own great little restaurant kitchen. We had two dinners here and tried almost everything on the menu. It was all very good. There is a cozy common room for breakfast and dinner with a wood fire and a view of the mountains. The private onsen needs to be booked in advance but always had availability. I recommend an onsen visit in the late afternoon. Turn off the lights and soak while enjoying a gentle and soothing view into a private garden space. Great experience and highly recommend. Thanks Mr. Kobayashi
There's a zen garden which is very much the highlight for the property. They have 2 onsens inside the property allowed for guests private use for 40min every session per night per stay with an additional onsen tax charge by selecting their preferred timing from 4.30pm onwards everyday.
All of their staff are well communicated by english.
They have their own kitchen available for breakfast set and dinner orders.
Other facilities in the properties such as play room (with yoga equipments), coined laundry machine, massage chair etc avaliable for guest use.
It was really a lovely stay.
However, do note that Hakone's day usually ends 4-5pm. So do plan your itineary properly and the property is about 20min walk through staircase from Gora station once the bus service rans out. Otherwise, it is only 6min walk from bus station.
Fantastic stay, would definitely recommend to frie
We loved our stay at the Asante Inn. The staff was incredibly accommodating, and very helpful with local recommendations.
We had a private room for 2 (picture included), as well as a single bed in the female dorm (for my sister-in-law). We all opted for the Japanese breakfast each day, which was prepared beautifully and was fantastic. Our room was on the lower level, right next to the mini workout area (a stationary bike, as well as some other machine), which had a massage chair. The massage chair was incredible, and much needed after a long day of hiking.
We loved the private onsen with signups. They have a left (larger) and right (smaller) onsen which can be both be reserved in 40 minute increments using a signup on the main floor. Signups are for 16:00-22:30 (8 signups, 2 onsens, so 16 different reservations a day). The onsens can be used on a first come first served basis in the mornings as well.
We also went to a local japanese restaurant near the bottom of the hill (not far from the bus stop) which was an incredible experience within a few minutes walking from the hotel.
Family of four (with 8yo twins) stayed here in November 2025. It's a beautiful inn, comfortable and clean and quiet, with friendly staff and good food for breakfast and dinner. The bath is lovely -- staff help you book a time in the evening at check in, and it's available on a first come first served basis in the morning. Free shuttles up to Gora in the morning are also a bonus (although you'll have to get yourself to Asante in the afternoon/evening as they don't offer shuttles then). Overall a great experience.
