This is a beautiful place with a private beach on Lake Huron. Quiet, restful, beautiful wildflowers next to a stream that empties into the lake. A lovely place for birdwatching or sitting on the beach watching occasional freighters in the distance. The cottage was perfect, clean, and tidy.
The only problem I ran into was that I never received the code for entering the property. That was very difficult after a long drive. I tried calling the host 3 times with no luck, so I had to contact VRBO.They also tried the number with no luck. They suggested I use hotel.com to reserve a room in a hotel. I ended up reserving a non-refundable hotel room that was about 45 minutes away. (It was the closest place available). After filling up with gas to go to the hotel, the host from the cottage finally called and gave me the codes I needed for the property. At this point, I was tired and hungry and grateful to not have to drive any further. I called the hotel to cancel and they told me my money would not be refunded. So I ended up losing over $200. I am hoping VRBO can help me with this as I was put into this predicament by the lateness of my host to respond with important information. Communication was very disappointing. I never received information prior to the long drive. The host insisted that she texted it to me, but I had never received a text from her.
I am used to having clear directions from VRBO hosts the weekend prior to leaving for the trip.
