  • Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as Temple of the Buddha Tooth in English, is a UNESCO heritage site, and a popular place to visit for newly weds. It was awfully packed over the full moon weekend (would not recommend visiting during this period)! This pavilion-like structure at the front Paththirippuwa, or Octagon. It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. Enough for a Stay Overnight

The hotel is still a construction area. Rooms looked quite new but no AC. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dogs in neighborhood barking all night long. A place to stay for little money.

Just don't use this 'hotel'

Where shall I start?! They were not expecting us, could not find the booking, we were then shown to a filthy room (someone's dirty soap and wrappers in the bathroom and matchsticks and peanuts on the bedroom floor). We rejected that and were given one which was slightly better. We asked for a meal in the 'restaurant' and were served a pretty poor rice and curry which it turned out had come from the local takeaway shack. The wifi was non existant and we were given so many excuses we asked to meet the manager/owner the next day. He told us that he did not want to be listed by Hotels.com and had asked for his 'hotel' to be removed. He also promised that the broken handle on our room would be repaired, but that did not happen either.... Add to all this the incessant fighting & barking of dogs belonging to people living in the basement & I'm sure you will understand why we couldn't wait to leave.
