Nice house, but worn and needs to be refreshed, particularly the living room couch. And absence of Kleenex, paper napkins, coffee filters, scissors, and aluminum foil was a nuisance. Also, the handrail to the top floor needs to be extended 3' so that it reaches the top floor.

We loved our time at this property. The house cools down quickly once you open all the windows. Check in was super easy and our two questions were answered quickly via text. The home felt like a destination unto itself. Watching the sunrise and turtles in the AM and relaxing in the pool at night were perfect ways to bookend our Hilo-side adventures.

We were very pleased with this property. The ocean front location is beautiful and we frequently saw turtles in the water in front of the house. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the hot tub. The property was clean and well-maintained. The property is professionally managed and the management team was very responsive.

Family vacation

The house is just like photos. Our family of 6 had plenty of room. Well equipped kitchen, every room has its own individual patio with sitting area (even the little one)the pool and hot tub next to the ocean made it really amazing. Definitely 5 stars!

Pretty perfect

It was beautiful. Hot without windows open, but cooled off quickly. Small ants food get into a few things like food and tooth brush so put everything in sealed bags, but it definitely did not ruin our stay. Kids lived the pool and adults loved the hot tub. Can't beat the view!!

Beautiful and relaxing stay.

This house and the surrounding area are perfect if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, tropical vacation. The house was clean and beautifully situated if you enjoy listening to the sound of the ocean (which we LOVE). The neighborhood was walkable and peaceful. We would stay here again and again.

Great experience on the Volcano side of the island

Unique property right on the water with waves crashing in 24x7. Sunrise is worth waking up for. Kids had a blast and we got good use out of the pool and kitchen. We did a lot of activities within 2 hours of the house, highly recommend getting a tour guide for volcanoes national park to learn about all the unique details.

Nice, clean property, but no air conditioning. Lawn service showed up on the best weather day we had, which placed limitations on outdoor enjoyment most of the day. Was not sure why they were scheduled while we were renting.

Unique location

Property was as shown in pictures. It is a bit of a drive from amenities and the town of Hilo so just be prepared before heading to the house. It offers a private and quiet area to relax. The hot tub was great at the end of the day. Wonderful views of the ocean and neat volcanic shoreline.

Great Memories

A fabulous location and home which met our requirements. We enjoyed our stay so much that we would like to return to continue our experience. The photos are accurate and describe the house better than words. The garden is thoughtfully landscaped providing a variety of plants and seating areas to encourage thoughtful serenity. The house is well equipped, however I suggest that the filthy fan kept in the bedroom closet be replaced or cleaned. The TV did not function even when following the instructions provided but we simply used our streaming device so it was not a problem. The hot tub only had jets functioning for two seating areas which worked out as it was just the two of us. The location is very good - 18 minutes from Hilo; 25 minutes from Volcano. Restaurants and groceries are 15-20 minutes drive. Overall it is a quiet neighbourhood. However, be very aware that the empty lot adjacent to the property is used as access to the shoreline by some shady characters who live out of their vehicle. We observed these unpleasant individuals daily when the weather was fine. Fortunately the weather worked in our favour and the wind and surf were high so the vagrant did not appear for the last few days of our stay.

Great location, needs new management

We stayed for a week, we loved the location. The management and housekeeping were very rude. We asked for a couple of towels, since there were only 1 per person. Housekeepers came over and requested to come in the house so they could verify how many towels were there, they also made remarks of "sometimes people say there are 4 people when there are more". Our cousin lives in Maui and came over for a night for my son's 2nd birthday. The jacuzzi went out, and management didn't respond for 3 hours, when they did they were not helpful at all. With this location you need the pool and jacuzzi to be functional. A lady came to clean the pool, went to the side and smoke a cigarette right next to open windows. Having a baby, we were very upset about that. Very unprofessional management, housekeepers and pool cleaner. For the amount of money, they made us feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, we won't be back here.

Spectacular setting in East Hawaii

This is a stunning property on the lava cliffs near the town of Pahoa. The house is clean and spacious with a large comfortable kitchen/living/dining area overlooking spectacular ocean views. At night it was amazing to hear the crashing waves mixed with the chirps of the coqui frogs. It was easy to take nearby day trips to Hawaii volcanoes national park, Hilo, and South Puna. All our family agreed that this was one of our favorite rentals. We would love to stay here again.

Honeymoon Letdown

This house...is just OK. Ocean in the back is amazing. However, it's far off the beaten path w no cell service. This house has 3 lockboxes. There's a non-working lockbox on the back porch, 1 non-working by the garage and 1 on the back side of a pole by the front door that does work. We kept sending pics & videos asking if we were trying the right lockbox and they kept saying yes and we just weren't pulling hard enough to open it. Clearly they didn't know which lockbox was the right 1 or what it looked like. We were outside in the rain trying to get in the house for over 30 minutes trying to contact mgt w/ limited cell service. We were late to our dinner reservations b/c of this. There's no A/C in the home (not in the description), and not enough fans provided to cool it down. It's not in the safest feeling neighborhood, and there was a rowdy party across the street playing excessively loud rap music. We were very nervous being there alone as we didn't have any cell service to call for help if needed, and you have to sleep w all the windows open so as not to die from the heat. We were nervous all night that someone from the party might make their way to the house. We hid our belongings before heading to dinner b/c we were worried about the types of people wandering about. The hot tub was broken. A curtain was missing in front of the toilet by the front window in the master bedroom. We stayed 1 night and cut our losses and found another place to stay

A Great Place To Relax

The house was exactly as advertised-right on the ocean. Our evenings were spent having drinks and enjoying the scenery. The pool was great for our kids. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working at the time, which was a bummer, but normally it would be running. The rooms were nice. The house is a little ways from restaurants and grocery stores, so be sure to stock up on food before getting there. Nice walks from the house as well. Be sure to watch the sunrise at the end of the road if you're awake at that time.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! The perfect get away to relax!

We stayed at this property for our honeymoon, it was absolutely perfect! Beautiful views from all over the home, pool is excellent, hot tub was great and the lava rock ocean views were incredible! We saw a family of turtles in the water every day that we were there! I recommend them to everyone! In addition to an amazing property, the customer service is even better! We had two issues (caused by us) and they were so helpful and very sweet even though we messed something up! :)

Calm, relaxing and beautiful

Loved our stay at the Hale Mar! It was the perfect get away house for our family. It was quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed reading books in the hammock. Swimming in the pool and sunbathing on the lounge chair. The master bedroom is spacious and comfortable. Would def recommend a stay here.

Beautiful house and yard with an amazing view

This house has the most beautiful view I’ve ever stayed at!! The yard, pool, and hot tub were wonderful! The house was perfect for our family of five. Had all the necessities needed for our stay. Our kids kept hiding out in the upstairs master bedroom because of the view and the ocean breezes! It was nice to get some laundry done and relax poolside after a few busy days of touristing. You won’t regret staying here-it really is paradise!
