Location and property were great for our stay. Beds were comfortable and enjoyed having the basement for the teens. We enjoyed the wood burning stove. The deck would be awesome in the warmer months. Communicated with property owner to update kitchen items so one could more easily prepare meals. Would stay again.
The Crate Escape gave amazing views of wildlife and a feeling of being at home. Would definitely stay here again!

We had an amazing stay at the Crate Escape.
It is well appointed clean and quite unique in its construction, the beds are comfy and the location is great, just a couple minutes to Lead but feels private and secluded. The deck was amazing and surrounded by wild flowers that smelled so good! We would love to stay here again.
What a beautiful and unique home! We loved everything about our stay. It was so wonderful to hear the turkeys gobbling in the morning and to watch the mule deer climb the hillside across from the cabin. I highly recommend Crat Escape!
We have stayed in the Black Hills for years and this is our new favorite place to stay. It was clean, easily accommodated up to 6 people, easy access to trails, restaurants, and downtown Deadwood. We will absolutely book again.
We had a lovely stay at Crate Escape in Terry Peak. If you're looking for a family fun ski get-away, this is a great option. The house is located about 5 minutes from Terry Peak Ski Resort, a quick easy drive. It's quiet and secluded but easy access to roads, plenty of space for cooking and conversation and beautiful views to wake up to.
The host was easy to communicate with and had quick response time.
We will definitely stay again.

This place was great very spacious and really nice. it’s made out crates and really cool the sauna is made out of a crate as well. Honestly the only thing that would make this place any better is a hot tub on the deck.
Great place to stay! Very secluded and quiet but close to many attractions. House was great. Super clean and the host was wonderful! Would definitely stay there again.
We had a great time at this location! The weather was great with a few rain showers to cool the afternoons a bit. Close to the town of Lead where we had breakfast at one of the casinos that had a 0.79 special each day. This place is recommended as it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Great place to stay in the area. Check in was easy & host was in fast contact when we accidentally locked ourselves out. Clean, spacious, great location, & everything you need for a relaxing stay. Highly recommend
Very private and comfortable property. Beds were comfortable and home is very clean. There are quite a bit of stairs to get to main level, but wasn’t a problem for our party. Would stay here again!
I booked this property for a bachelorette party weekend in the hills and we absolutely loved it! Everything was clean and our host was so accommodating for us! We will definitely stay here again.
Tracy was a great host. Property was amazing and quiet. Great for traveling with dogs. The beds and pillows were amazing!! Definitely will stay again if we come back to the hills. We were just amazed from the second we walked in the door.
Stayed at Crate Escape for a family holiday with 3 generations and 2 dogs. Accommodations worked great for all, with a good mixture of private and public spaces. Lots of late night Mario Party played downstairs while grandparents slept upstairs. The dogs loved the big deck and spotting all the local wildlife. Beds were incredibly comfortable with dark curtains and great air movement with the fans. Really lovely stay!
We had a great time at the Crate Escape. It was the perfect space for our family vacation with a beautiful view. Every morning and evening we would watch the deer on the hillside and hang out on the patio. It was a convenient location and we would definitely visit here again.
Crate escape was a wonderful and unique property. The house comfortably accommodated an age range of 13-68 for three nights. We had all the amenities at our disposal, and it was a scenic drive to many places. It was a short drive to many restaurants in Deadwood and Lead, and to the grocery in Lead. We really enjoyed it, and would visit again!
Crate Escape is a wonderful stay if you want clean, modern aesthetics without the cabin feel. The hills and foliage offer peace and quiet, wrapping you in a cocoon of relaxation. We loved sitting on the deck listening to the babble of a small creek’s waterfall. The kitchen has everything you need, nice bathrooms and smart TVs. If you are sensitive to scents bring your own shower supplies. Look for wildlife just off the deck; we saw deer. The sauna was not available but we didn’t miss it. The best part of our stay was that our dog was welcome, too!
The Crate Escape is a very nice and unique place. We very much enjoyed our stay. It was too bad that 385 had the road construction going on which kind of kept us from going to hill city and the Custer areas. Still had a very enjoyable time.
Perfect Balance - Crate EscapeStayed July 26 – August 2
My husband and I, along with two other couples and a teenager, stayed at Crate Escape during our motorcycle trip through the Black Hills—and we couldn’t have picked a better place. The cabin was the perfect home base for our group. Spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, it had everything we needed after long days of riding— a spacious primary with en suite, 2 other decently sized rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, and lots of room to relax both indoors and out. The outdoor sauna was a total hit, especially in the evenings after winding through the hills all day.We brought our motor bikes and spent the week riding The Needles and Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, and all the scenic routes in between. Coming back to the cabin each night felt like a retreat—quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by nature, yet close enough to everything we needed. We really enjoyed our coffee with the deer around the cabin each morning. The hosts were great to deal with and made sure we were well taken care of from start to finish. Whether you’re riding through the Hills, or just looking to unwind, Crate Escape is a hidden gem. We’re already talking about when we willCome back! — Brydon & Kim
