Travelling with family

Travelling with family and young children from USA, the welcome and service upon arrival and later in the restaurant was very good. The good sized room, good food and a comfortable nights sleep was rather undone by the unnecessarily slow and drawn out breakfast, which was disappointing.

We stayed in the garden view room with the spa bath. I am much happier writing positive reviews, so it pains me to have to write this, but I feel that management needs to be made aware of the shortcomings and hopefully address them. Firstly - the bed. Oh dear, what is going on? I thought it was one mattress, but it is actually 2 smaller ones shoved together, with a rather large seam down the centre. I sat on it, and the springs bottomed right out and I was literally sitting directly on the box spring underneath. And I'm not that heavy. It can't be more than 4 inches thick, and is in dire need of replacement - I was rolling out of bed throughout the night due to lack of support. Cleanliness - top of "wardrobe" was thick with dust, as were tops of door frames. Just because nobody is likely to see these areas does not mean they do not need cleaning! Caulking in the bathroom was crumbling and mouldy. Needs re-doing. Shower head support "broke" after one use, making it inoperable. Wifi was terrible. We're talkiing dial-up speeds (if anyone remembers those). There were cobwebs in the top right corner of the room, along with the creatures that created the offending webs in the other corner. Now I understand that it's in the countryside, but maybe hire an insect control professional? On the plus side, the carpet was clean but uninspiring, and so were the bed sheets and pillowcases. The staff seemed pleasant and friendly, but that does not make up for the other shortcomings.

A little disappointed - not as quiet/peaceful

We had booked this small hotel mainly based on the description on their website for what we expected to be a peaceful, tranquil 2 nights in quiet surroundings. We would have given a 5 star review but sadly it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. The location is perfect, in the small village of Elmesthorpe however, we found the hotel itself to be fairly noisy and busy for much of the time during our stay as it is open to non-residents for private functions, restaurant dining and the outdoor pool, which our room overlooked. We had booked a junior suite so was a decent sized ‘large double’ with twin beds and a sofa. Unfortunately the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable and ‘lumpy’ so had poor nights sleep. The room itself was very clean, although the decor is a little tired and in need of an update to match the public areas of the hotel. What makes this hotel is definitely the staff and the quality of food served in the restaurant - both these are deserving of a 10/10 and a return visit. We found all the staff to be friendly, attentive and professional - a credit to the owners.

Lovely place just needs a bit of a modernization

Stayed here a couple of times now both times in the same room so I can't comment on the others. We had a decent sized room with a comfy bed, telly and WiFi. Everything was spotless but getting a bit tired and worn out. The staff were lovely and the hotel is in a nice setting just needs a bit of a modernization
