“It was unfortunate that we had heavy rain and the roof leaked. The whole place was damp and the carpet spelt of wet dog. We arrived to a mouse in the kitchen, and the ants moved in overnight. The managers were thoughtful and responsive, however, the place was really not fit for living. Sorry, wasn’t cheap either. All very disappointing.”

“Great view from the lounge window featuring a fantastic kinetic sculpture. Gracious, friendly host met us when we pulled up and made us feel very welcome. Everything we needed was available. Stayed just one night, but would definitely return.”

“Wonderful location. Stunning views with amazing night sky, lying in outdoor bath! Very comfortable beds and cosy with log burner on the one chilly evening. Would loved to have stayed longer.”

“Great wee bach and a lovely location. We very much enjoyed our time here. Bach had everything we needed. Julian was a great host. Our kids enjoyed fishing and jumping off the wharf, kayaking, paddle boards (we brought our own) and walking the beach at low tide. We took our own boat and used the mooring with this bach. Great to only be a 15 min boat trip from Waikawa.”

“Lovely comfortable warm home. Welcoming touch of fresh eggs and milk. Felt at home being on the farm. Enjoyed the company of horses nearby with a 5 minute walk to the Wairau river. Lots of close walks nearby. A hidden treasure. Love to come back.”

“This is our second stay at this beautiful Mapua Cottage. It’s quirky, warm, comfortable and very close to the small Mapua shopping area and eateries. Great walks and cycle trails are nearby, including rabbit island. Highly recommend. ”

“Online listing does not explain clearly the ‘off grid’ nature of the property (limited power & hot water) and does not include details about the 300m walk (incl a skinny sway bridge crossing) to get from where you park your car to the property, nor was this communicated to us as part of the special instructions you normally receive days before your arrival. No contact was made until a few hours prior and no information was provided at that time, only on arrival were we told that we needed a 4WD……

“The house exceeded our expectations: location, view, interior, heating (partially with fan, in the living room with wood fire), kitchen - everything was perfect! Communicatoin with the host (Lesley) was quick, direct and clear, their gallery and art is beautiful.”
