"Good place in a high street"

"Lovely location within easy reach of Wivenhoe and colchester. Our room was in the main house so the room was period therefore furnished with old furniture which is not really to our taste. The bathroom was modern however and spotless. We tried the restaurant for dinner, unfortunately only Sunday roast menu and a few other mains. We both had roast but unfortunately not the best 4/10 and patchy service too. Nobody asked if we liked it but mandatory 12.5% service charge! However the breakfast was very good and lovely service, good selection of hot and cold plus special orders from the menu. Overall a really nice stay but with a few niggles."

"Apart from thd issue às to whether breakfast was included, my stay was excellent. Pool, room, servicing. bar ambience location were very good. The breakast experience was oùtstanding. Food was in abundance with good selection. So glad I had the breakfasts. The staff were really good. On the payment for breakfast...this was a difficult challenge. The reception guy was so calm unflustered and professional. Maybe someting needs to be clearer in the process as breakfasts were quitè expensive. Not to detract however...my overall experiencd was very good."

"Carpet in the hall way was all lifted and was a trip hazard. You have to pay for parking which you would expect in a city centre hotel but not one just off a dual carriageway. I was staying for work, no mobile network and the WiFi didn’t work so I couldn’t do any work."

"lovely staff friendly and helpful room was spotless, had everything we needed food was lovely , well served , great value will stay again , bed exceptionally comfortable , pillows so good i've googled the make , and have them on order ."

"Very convenient for early Southend airport departure. Restaurant however very basic. Chips clearly fried from frozen, etc. Rooms a bit dated. Nice big bed, but tiny tv on wall? Our sink would not drain. Clearly blocked pipes. When reported in the morning, the duty officer making the bog standard comment "oh, I will make a note", before turning back to whatever he was doing before. Forgotten already..."
