A truly historical and intriguing town and property, which was a delight to stay in.
A truly historical and intriguing town and property, which was a delight to stay in. Even though the cottage was equipped with the mod cons of today, it was possible to retreat from modernity for a while, if one so wished. The owner, Jane, is discreetly on hand and a source of local knowledge. The enclosed garden is peaceful and a place where all wildlife is encouraged and can find shelter. A must for bird lovers! There are two Staffies that belong to Jane, Earwig and Hippo, who share the garden. These two are the gentlest of creatures and pose absolutely no problem to visitors, indeed, they add to the general ambience of nature respected.
The church bells were mainly silent while we were there due to repairs, so we are unable to make a comment concerning this feature. However, chiming bells are an essential feature of old English settlements and have to be accepted as such. They did not bother us while we were there and when they intermittently functioned were a pleasure to hear.
Plenty of walks on the doorstep and sites of interest to explore in the locality, also supermarkets and amenities. Dunster Beach is unspoiled and has a charm of its own.
If you want peace and a respite from the rat-race, Old Priory Cottage is your destination!
