Our first stay at the Colton was in the late 1980s and it remains one our choice hotels in Monterey. Older hotel but quiet, well maintained, and very comfortable. Close to the downtown area. Very reasonably priced.

Property was dated but overall clean. It was located in a central and safe area, very close to the downtown. The breakfast was not very good but did have plenty of carbs to fill you up. My husband was not impressed with the coffee either (I drink tea). If you come back too late in the evening (9:30 pm) there was not enough parking, so we had to park on the street.

Room was basic, outdated, however, clean, the beds/pillows were very comfortable. Needs updating. No USB ports, Ceiling fan was very unstable, screen door to the balcony needs replacing. It was a plus to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room. Parking was definitely a PLUS - free, convenient. Location is Great, close but quiet. Breakfast was disappointing - very basic, cereal in plastic containers, flimsy paper plates, frozen waffles stacked in a bowl - just not a good look. The breakfast needs to be elevated to a higher level. Staff very pleasant, helpful, courteous. Overall 6/10
