  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

What a lovely stay! Perfect for a roadtrip around the Tuscany! Breakfast and service is great! we left at 6am before the breakfast started and they did a special breakfast to -go for us.

Amazing stay

It was an amazing stay! The hotel was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. The only thing is that we went in November so we couldn’t use the pool. But besides that, it was such a nice experience

This hotel is unique, clean, and has amazing with restaurants on site. The breakfast is a buffet style with big selection of fresh options. Had dinner at the restaurant as well and absolutely everything we ordered was on point and delicious. The staff was super helpful, nice, and welcoming. The only bad part was that my stay was for a very short time. The courtyards are so beautiful. I will definitely plan to stay here in a near future

This stay was perfect. Location was out and alone but the property was safe and comfortable. Clean pool, nice breakfast and luxurious rooms. I would go back again in a minute! We all loved our stay here.

rooms are perfect for a family of 4. it's very quiet and the swimming pool is large and nice. Very well located and easy to reach. Breakfast was perfect as well.

When our travel plans changed, we were very lucky to get two room at this hotel. A one night stay made us wish we had booked a whole week here. The hotel is easy reached, being only a short distance off a main highway. The rooms were large and comfortable. The staff was very helpful in checking in/out and arranging dinner for us when we arrived late. All in all, a great stay and close to our travel goals in Tuscany.

The kids enjoyed the pool, it is a relaxing setting but the service could be a lot better. They certsinly dont make you feel appreciated for booking theough discount sites like expedia. Discounted service on discounted price, but the breakfast menu deserves praise.

I was supposed to stay here for seven days eight nights and from the first look of it the room that they gave me did not even have a window air conditioner was broken place was super dirty so I went to the staff to try to get to see if they can refund me the money they will not even do that. I called Expedia Expedia trying to dispute, the cost honestly, I would not recommend anyone to stay at this place. It’s too far from the sites. It was awful.

This is a “tired” hotel with an unfriendly staff, good food in the restaurant and in a good location if traveling by car. Proper maintenance is lacking such as missing or broken parts on doors and windows. And we had a hard time open the closet door. This is a very pet friendly hotel and I almost tripped over a dog laying on the floor at breakfast. We got to see a nice dog fight in the lobby and listen to a happy poodle barking at people as they walked by during lunch. We reserved the hotel through Expedia, along with 12 other hotels, during our travel in Italy. This is the only hotel that never returned any of my messages through Expedia. When we arrived, desk person was very nice. They had a wedding going on so I had to park in a field behind the hotel. Other front desk people were not very helpful. The wait staff had “snooty” attitude. We would not stay here again.

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt! Das großzügige Familienzimmer hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Großer Pool, der auch Mitte September noch geöffnet war. Zentrale Lage, in 15-20 Minuten ist man mit dem Auto in Siena oder Colle di Val d‘Elsa, in weniger als 10 Minuten am Stadttor von Monteriggioni. Toskana Feeling pur! Einzig beim Frühstück gibt es noch Luft nach oben - bitte mehr Auswahl an Brot, den alten Toaster gegen ein neues Modell tauschen (es dauert einfach ewig und man steht Schlange für eine Scheibe Toast) und gern auch vegetarische oder vegane Optionen anbieten in Zukunft.

Très bon séjour

Hôtel situé entre Florence et Sienne. Le service est très professionnel. Le petit déjeuner est copieux. La carte du restaurant est variée et les plats sont goûteux. La chambre avec mezzanine est grande. La literie est confortable. Un léger bémol : la douche cabine est petite. Il n’y a pas d’espace attitré pour poser ses affaires de toilettes.
