Charming ancient farm house in Chianti

Charming ancient villa in Tuscany located in the heart of Chianti. 50 km from Siena and 30 km from Florence, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards and 5 acres of olive groves and private wood. Beautiful garden with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside including the towers of San Gimignano. Nice swimming pool of 6x3 meter, 1,40 hight, with a calm and sunny wood deck in a wanderful position overlooking tuscany's hills.
To have breakfast under the arbor looking at the Tuscany's hills is an unforgettable experience as well as to eat a "bruschetta" with olive oil got directly in the "terracotta" jars kept in the house basement. Is the perfect location to visit historical places as Certaldo, Volterra, San Giminiano, Greve and many others cities and spots of art and culture... It also offer a lot of opportunities for trekking and natural activities. The house is like the ancient family's memories keeper, elegantly furnished with antiquities, old pictures and objects and an extensive library of rare and vintage books.
Large traditional eat in kitchen, spacious double living room area with old fireplace, 2 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms that accommodate up to 9 people. Fully equipped , ceiling fan in the bedroom, mosquitos nets, and free Wi-Fi, with all comforts and amenities.
For many years Barbara, an anthropologist working for international organizations, travelled and lived in several countries. Together with her three daughters who were all born in this family house, they are now managing with great passion this beautiful country house and its olive grove, which produce an extra virgin DOC oil.

Family of 5 from the UK with three teenage daughters. We stayed for 8 nights in August when the temperature was up to 37C most days. The property is beautiful, full of understated Italian charm and with views across to San Gimignano that are captivating. Whilst the house has no air conditioning, it remains cool during the day if care is taken with blinds and windows. At night, the fans in each room ensured that we all slept well despite the daytime heat. The pool was lovely to swim in when the heat became too much. We spent hours sitting in the shade reading books, whilst admiring the views. Siena, Florence and Volterra were only an hour’s drive away, and we would recommend heading to San Gimignano for the evening when the crowds reduce, restaurants are easier to get into, and the lighting is stunning. We can’t recommend this property too highly. We met both Mariangela and Francesco during our stay who couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome and help with any questions.

Barbara sets the house up perfectly and is very attentive to our needs, as well as Maria Angela the one who helped with cleaning. I do not recommend this property

The primary reason for not recommending this property is due to our dealings with the host but there are other issues with the property. As has been said by other reviewers this property is very cluttered with very little space for renters to put any of their own things. The appliances are old, much of the china is chipped and we ended up buying our own pans rather than use the old aluminium ones in the property! The internet did not work at all for us, and Mariangela. who checked us in, told us immediately we arrived that the internet was very bad in the house - in contradiction to what is said in the property description. We also were not told until the day of arrival that there is an electrified fence on the property and since we were taking dogs this was a significant issue for us. Our main problem though was dealing with the host after we had the great misfortune of breaking a bedside lamp, which we immediately reported to her, but for which she wanted to claim a value of EUR290. Admittedly the host's English is not very good but I am sure she understood when I asked for proof of this value to provide to our insurers but the only response we had to this from her was to forward a VRBO message saying this amount had been debited from my credit card, with no reference to my request. She also wanted to charge us EUR30 for a broken bottom shelf in her old refrigerator which we had found broken at the end of our stay, as we informed Mariangela who was again checking us out. This was clearly not safety glass, and we strongly felt should not have been our responsibility as all we did was to store food in the refrigerator. We, of course, contacted VRBO to contest the charge for the refrigerator shelf and to ask for their assistance in gaining the needed valuation which resulted in their refunding the whole deposit taken, so I can only assume they had as little luck as we in getting a valuation from the host. We should not have had to do this. All we wanted was an honest valuation for the damage and to be met with a rude silence from a host who had been far from silent in other messages is simply not acceptable. One other serious issue we had was that Mariangela was not willing to accept the tourist tax from us saying she knew nothing about it, despite the host's legal requirement to collect this. So, we had the trouble of contacting the Comune di Montespertoli to sort this out which, again, is not acceptable behaviour by the host.

Fabuleux séjour

Merci Barbara, la maison est fabuleuse, l'emplacement est parfait pour visiter la Toscane. Vous êtes à moins d'une heure des sites touristiques (Pise, Sienne, Florence etc...). De la piscine vous avez une vue dégagée sur la vignes et les oliviers. Que ce soit dans la cuisine ou sur la terrasse ombragée vous allez passer de superbes moments en famille ou avec des amis.

Amazing, gorgeous, perfect Tuscan experience!

From the moment we arrived at this outstanding property until our departure (after a horrendous thunderstorm!), we had an incredible, lovely stay at this ancient yet updated and well appointed property. The location is isolated yet close to everything we needed. We cooked in the gourmet kitchen and ate outside most nights. We had the most relaxing, therapeutic stay prior to my son’s wedding in Florence. Can’t wait to return! La vita e bella!

Wonderful character filled Tuscan home

Our family had a great restful time staying at this character home. We had a great time using the pool and having alfresco breakfasts and meals near the pool. Beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside and olive groves extending from the house. Thank you Barbara for a wonderful experience and opening your family home to us. We will definitely be back!

Un tuffo rigenerante in un’atmosfera da sogno!

Abbiamo trascorso la nostra breve vacanza di famiglia ( 5 notti, cani compresi) in questa casa incantevole ed unica. Il posto è meraviglioso, circondato da una natura e da un panorama mozzafiato. In questa casa si sentono solo il silenzio e il canto delle cicale; è completa di tutti i confort, non manca davvero nulla per trascorrere una vacanza all’insegna della tranquillità e del relax. Qui si respira un’atmosfera unica, la casa è vecchia ed è questo che la rende così speciale! Nulla di moderno, solo tanta storia ,tanta classe e tanti ricordi. Gli ambienti sono grandi e confortevoli( la cucina poi e’splendida!), le camere sono spaziose ed accoglienti . Gli ambienti sono puliti e curati. Sicuramente ci vuole una particolare attenzione poiché l’arredamento è antico e per alcuni aspetti delicato, ma la consiglio a tutti gli amanti del genere “non moderno”,perché merita davvero di essere vista ed apprezzata! Il giardino è molto curato, è tutto recintato ed è circondato da olivi secolari. La tettoia con il grande tavolo in legno accanto alla piscina ha reso le nostre giornate e le nostre serate piacevoli e fresche. Ringrazio particolarmente la Signora Barbara per la fiducia data al nostro gruppo un po’ complesso e ringrazio Mariangela per la sua gentilezza e per la sua disponibilità nell’’accoglierci e nel farci sentire a nostro agio. It's a pity that the vacation in such a wonderful place goes by so quickly!!!

We would like to sincerely thank the landlady Barbara and her whole family for making this house available to us. A very stylish place furnished with many personal things from different generations let us dream who might have lived in this house in the past. Each room in this house is like a small photo album and you feel as if you were the personal guest of the whole family. In addition, the house is located on a hill with a fantastic view of the vastness of Tuscany. Daily visits of the hoopoe delighted us as well as the flash of the hundred fireflies. A unique spectacle. There is no better place to relax, to enjoy the view, to make excursions. I would like to mention the kitchen: forget about induction cooking, combi-steamers and microwaves. Here you can cook as your mamma or nonna used to do. On gas, with countless dented but stylish pots and pans and with plenty of space to prepare the delicious dishes. In short, one of the most beautiful houses we have ever rented. Schade, dass der Urlaub an so einem wunderbaren Platz so schnell vorbei geht!!! Wir möchten uns ganz herzlichst bei der Vermieterin Barbara und ihrer ganzen Familie dafür bedanken, dass sie uns dieses Haus zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Ein sehr stilvoll und mit vielen persönlichen Dingen aus unterschiedlichen Generationen eingerichteter Ort liess uns ins Träumen geraten, wer wohl früher in diesem Haus gewohnt haben mag. Jedes Zimmer in diesem Haus kommt einem kleinen Fotoalbum gleich und man fühlt sich, als sei man der persönliche Gast der ganzen Familie. Dazu befindet sich das Haus auf einer Anhöhe mit einem traumhaften Blick in die Weiten der Toscana. Tägliche Besuche des Wiedehopfes begeisterten uns ebenso, wie das Blitzlichtgewitter der hundertfachen Glühwürmchen. Ein einmaliges Spektakel. Es gibt keinen besseren Ort zum relaxen, um die Aussicht zu geniessen, um Ausflüge zu unternehmen. Erwähnen möchte ich noch kurz die Küche: vergessen sie Induktionskochen, Kombisteamer und Mikrowellen. Hier kann man kochen wie das früher die Mamma oder die Nonna getan hat. Auf Gas, mit unzähligen verbeulten, aber stilvollen Töpfen und Pfannen und mit viel Platz zur Vorbereitung der köstlichen Speisen. Kurzum, eines der schönsten Häuser, die wir je gemietet haben.

Le calme de la Toscane dans un cadre privilégié

Nous avons passé une semaine exceptionnelle dans la magnifique maison de famille de Barbara. La vue est splendide, la piscine agréable et le jardin reposant ; bref, un vrai dépaysement. Bonus : la maison est décorée d’anciens meubles et gravures, et on y ressent toute l’histoire et l’héritage familial.

Le site de cette propriété est magnifique et jouit d'un paysage toscan magique à chaque heure de la journée. Je suis pourtant désolée de devoir dire que cette propriété n'est pas du tout accessible pour des personnes en fauteuil roulant.Les salles de bain en particulier ne possèdent aucune barre d'appui et le danger est donc toujours présent.Dans la chambre des enfants l'échelle métallique pour les lits superposés est inutilisable et doit ètre réparée ou abolie car là aussi il y a danger. La literie est obsolète, la plupart des matelas sont en laine. La batterie de cuisine, casseroles et poèles sont dangereuses, manches branlants et casseroles en aluminium percées au niveau des vis, pas de four à micro-ondes. Quant à la wifi,elle est pratiquement inexistante mais ceci est dù au lieu isolé. Malgré tous ces inconvénients pour des vacanciers sans exigences particulières séjourner à Montespertoli reste un privilège et nous en garderons donc un beau souvenir.

Authentic, rustic tuscan property with gorgeous views

We spent a few weeks in August 2019 on this really authentic and rustic tuscan property, in the heart of the Chianti hills. We were looking for a quiet, secluded location with great views and Barbara’s house was above our expectations. The scenery is second to none. The house is old and full of character, feels like living inside a little museum and to us was like a journey back in time. Definetly an unique and rare experience that is worth living. The property has a small and very clean swimming pool, regularly maintained during our stay - such a treat during hot summer days. Great outdoor eating area, overlooking Chianti hills and SanGimignano in the far distance. The property is well located - approx within 25-40 min driving from Certaldo, San Gimignano, Florence. Less than an hour to Sienna and Pisa. Probably due to very secluded location of the property, the wifi is not the fastest.. but again, the beauty and charm of the property easily overcome the need for modern technology. Altogether, we felt privileged to spend our holiday in such a special place and would come back anytime. Thank you to Barbara and Mariangela, With best wishes Raluca and family

A true taste of Tuscany

We really enjoyed our 8 day stay in Barbara’s beautiful home in Tuscany and hope to return there in the future. Set amongst it’s own olive groves, this authentic Tuscan farm house provided ample room for our family of two adults and three teenagers. The house has a genuine Tuscan family feel to it that has clearly been built up over the generations it has passed through Barbara’s family.  Barbara was easy to communicate with in the build up to our stay and replied swiftly to our enquiries.    Upon our arrival at the property we were met by Barbara’s neighbour Mariangela who showed us around and made us feel at home. Any questions we had during the course of our visit were always quickly answered by Mariangela who lives down the track in the adjoining property.   The property is well equipped and has all you need  for modern living but retains a rustic feel to it. We had some great days out to Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano and Lucca but we really enjoyed our days at home by the pool. The pool  and the covered area next to it were the perfect place to relax , enjoy some food and soak in the incredible views of the Tuscan landscape. By day you can see the medieval turrets of San Gimignano 10 miles in the distance while at night  we spent many an evening sat out and  counted shooting stars as we revelled in the thousands of stars that adorned the sky.   The local restaurants we sampled were friendly ,welcoming and within walking distance. Mariangela provided excellent directions to the local shops a short drive away in  Montespertoli as well as to other larger COOP stores in the towns beyond. We can thoroughly recommend that you sample a bottle of the local Chianti on offer and take back with you a bottle of olive  oil produced from the groves that surround this charming country home.  A magical experience. Excellent séjour

Située à mi-chemin entre Florence et Sienne, en pleine campagne toscane, nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans cette maison au charme rustique. Rien à redire!

Fantastico soggiorno

Il nostro soggiorno è stato splendido (ci voleva un po più di sole …). La casa è bellissima (le foto corrispondono perfettamente), grande e dotata di tutti i servizi necessari anche in vacanza. Il giardino è curato e fiorito (anche piante aromatiche) e la vista che si gode è stupenda. Riscaldamento perfetto e regolabile. Acqua calda senza limiti. Lavastoviglie che asciuga perfettamente e lavatrice (in cantina) dotata anche di ciclo rapido.

A nice house in a lovely part of the world

We had a lovely 2 week stay here. The property was perfect for us, big enough for 4 adults and a teenager, very quite and peaceful but close enough to all the major sites in Tuscany. We quickly got into the habit of 1 day by the pool followed by a day sightseeing. Florence was within a hour and we visited 3 times. Please bear in mind that the house is very old and full of the owners collections, but has all the requirements of the modern times; good showers WiFi etc.

Maison pleine d’histoire et au charme fou parfaite pour visiter une région comme la Toscane

La maison de Barbara est une maison de famille remplie de livres, de photos anciennes, de beaux meubles, de porcelaine. On s’y sent immédiatement comme chez soi. Elle est située en haut d’une colline avec une vue époustouflante sur la campagne toscane. On peut prendre ses repas dehors sous un grand auvent près de la piscine ou devant à l’ombre des arbres. C’est un plaisir de préparer les repas ou le café dans l’immense cuisine très bien équipée Car la maison a beau être très ancienne tous les équipements nécessaires sont là Machines à laver, matériel de cuisine, très belle vaisselle, barbecue ....On peut même en septembre manger directement les figues sur les arbres Et la situation géographique est parfaite pour visiter la Toscane. Surtout ne pas manquer de dîner à la trattoria Montalbina juste au dessus de la maison C’est un régal Bref un paradis que nous quittons avec beaucoup de regrets Merci Barbara !

An authentic experience in the beautiful heart of Tuscany. We felt like locals and loved it!

We had the best time staying at Barbara’s ancient farm house! The house is like a museum with antiques and artifacts from days gone by. The old family photos and furnishings make you want to know more about the history. Being a 200 year old house - you have to be ready for it to feel that way. If you are looking for air conditioning and modern conveniences, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for an experience that pulls you back in time - complete with gorgeous views, easy drives to Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, and other gorgeous Tuscan towns, where you can settle in for a few days and enjoy the local flavor - this is a great choice for you. We really enjoyed relaxing in the pool during the hot summer afternoons and cooking some wonderful meals on the covered deck. Barbara was out of town during our stay, so her adorable neighbor Mariangela welcomed us and made us feel at home. We ran into her a few times around town - which just made us feel more like locals! On our last night we ate dinner at the local Trattoria Montalbino - within walking distance - and had a wonderful experience and delicious food & wine! The only changes we suggest are some fans in the bedrooms for the hot summer nights - and a new mattress in one of the bedrooms. Other that that, we had a wonderful experience that we will never forget. Grazie Barbara and Mariangela!
