THIS HOTEL IS ABOUT TO CLOSE! The restaurant is closed, so is the spa and gym. We paid an enormous amount to stay there. There should have been some kind of warning on Expedia about this.

An excellent choice for our stay in NYC. Great customer service. We loved the hotel ambience and the location was close to Bryant Park and the theaters. We will definitely visit again and recommend to our friends.

This is a relatively high priced hotel located in the center of the theater district on a quiet street. The bed was both clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also clean. However, the carpet was filthy. It may have been vacuumed, but it had dirt stains all over it, and you couldn't be in the room without noticing it. I do a set of exercises every morning and looked forward to using the fitness center, but unfortunately it was closed when we were there. Consequently, I did my best to do some exercises on the carpet. Fortunately, they had 3 bath towels in the room for the two of us, and I could put a towel down when doing exercises on the floor. A few months ago, we went to New York for our granddaughter's graduation from Columbia and stayed in a hotel that was a couple hundred dollars per night less than the Chatwal and to which I could give a 5 star rating. I will not return to the Chatwal.

I had to cancel a non refundable room that I booked through Expedia and appealed thought Expedia to the hotel. The hotel responded to me via Expedia as in Dear Mikki... The Chatwal is a hotel that I stay at every year AND I am a Hyatt loyalty member. The hotel wrote back offering me the courtesy of a change of date or 10k points. I called to change the date and they would not honor their email offer. The hotel would not return my calls, Hyatt did not help either. A wasted day, a horrible customer service experience and a hotel that I will never stay at again.

I has an excellent stay, the service staff both at the front desk and for the room were excellent, a little dated furniture inside the rooms but clean with pleasant hospitable staff.
