I once interviewed an archaeologist for an article I was working on about the country’s hundreds of towers, castles and forts and he explained about the different design philosophies you can see. This #fort, he said, is in a dreadful defensive position. As a fortification, it is next to worthless. As a show of dominance over the surrounding #town, it’s outstanding. Impressive but after Bahla and Jabrin we thought we had understood enough about Omani forts. It was expensive so walked round the outside and still got some impressive photos.

Popular places to visit

The last #journey of my old Jeep was also one of the most interesting, ranging in-country as far as #Bahla, #Oman 🇴🇲. Sadly, the old #fort there was still under #renovation when I was there in January 2011. #TroveOnTuesday #LifeAtExpedia
