Clean. Safe, quiet location. Wish it could have been nearer to the center. Responsive host, who even made taxi arrangement to the airport, at a very early hour, at a better rate than online rates.
My wife and my two 18-year-olds stayed at Casa Crónica For one week and had a wonderful stay. The property is around the corner from Mercado de La Merced Which is a great neighborhood Mexican market with wonderful small restaurants for breakfast and lunch. We ate there twice.
Detear was a great host, very responsive in communicating with us. He even recommended a driver to take us to tour the small towns around Oaxaca. We will definitely be staying at Casa Crónica again.
Dieter was consistently an excellent communicator and sought to attend to our requests. The location is within walking distance to the tourist neighborhoods. If you need a quiet room, consider renting one of the apartments that do not front the street. There is a streetlight that beams through the lovely white curtains so consider bringing a sleeping mask. We were unlucky to have a three day interruption of internet service.
Four of us (my husband and I, and our grown daughter and her boyfriend) enjoyed a very pleasant stay at San Bartolo/Casa Cronica, Oaxaca, for 4 nights. The apartment was clean, with lots of light, and very comfortable, and the neighborhood felt safe and quiet. There's not really much of a common area within the apartment (just a small kitchen area with a table & benches), but we were able to sit up on the roof if we felt the need of more space. Detear Sanchez was a great host; at one point we requested extra towels and coffee cups, and someone delivered them right away. (A few more towels/kitchen towels would have been helpful.) Overall a really pleasant, comfortable place with easy access to the Zocalo and other local spots.
This is a wonderful place to stay. It was clean and felt very secure. There was incredible detail in everything that showed the owners put real thought into making this a nice place to stay. The kitchen is small so not good for large meal prep but has everything you need for basic meals. There are also some common on the roof and in the front for hanging out. There were great restaurants within walking distance. Centro was a 10 min taxi ride and they usually showed up within 2-3 mins. The owner was responsive and gave great detail in the instructions. There was an air conditioner and tv in each identical room. We will definitely be staying here again.
We were lacking several things that had been promised from the apt (adequate glasses and bowls) but Detear the host replaced what we needed. Beds are comfortable and AC was good. But overall, the apt was not comfortable: The apt faced the street and was noisy and very sunny - the drapes did not block out sunlight. There were no chairs to sit (ie: to read) - one could only sit on the bed. I looked at the other two apts in the bdg - they were better equipped, but unavailable. I would not stay in this apt again. The "terrace" is like an outdoor closet - it's hard to describe - not comfortable. The apt is around the corner from the Mercado Merced - well located.
Our stay in Oaxaca was great. The host was very communicative and helpful with whatever we needed. We felt very safe in the neighborhood and the space was clean.
This location was close to all the places I needed to be and so I walked everywhere. Much thanks to the host for clear check in instructions and speedy response.
It was a great and trouble free stay. The rooms are really nice and have good hanging storage and a bench for luggage. There are no dressers in the rooms, which wasn’t a problem for us because we usually have packing cubes. The location is in a residential area, and easy 10-20 min walk from all the main areas. There is a primary school across the street so it does get a bit noisy in the mornings but wasn’t a big deal for us. The host is very helpful and responsive. Would definitely consider staying here again if we come back to Oaxaca

Casa Cronica
Casa Cronica is located in a vibrant neighborhood just south of Jalatlaco with lots of kids, a school across the street, construction next door and easy walking to the centro and mercados. If you're looking for quiet, this is not the property for you. What wasn't clear to me was that the apartment didn't have a private sitting/living area but a common area on the first floor. The small apartment that we (4 adults) stayed in was one of 2-3 other apartments in the building. Our space had 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a very small kitchen. We thought that we had the entire space, and not just the bedrooms, bathroom and small kitchen. The description makes it seem like the common areas are individual to the apartment. FYI: that is not clear from the VRBO description, nor pictures. When we arrived, the toilet seat wasn't secured to the toilet. One of our guests fell off the toilet due to the lack of secure seat when they tried to use it. The sink was plugged up. There were no hand towels, nor soap in the bathroom. There was dirt and dust covering the wood bench seat in the hall between the bedrooms. It looked like it had been a rushed job of cleaning between guests or that some of the apartment was neglected in the process. Although the toilet seat was addressed by Detear, it was never fully secured to the toilet. So we had to be careful not to slide off of it! Lastly, due to no shower door, water would spray/soak all over the bathroom--toilet, sink and mirror.3 out of 5
