White Sands is the largest gypsum dune field in the world. It is located in the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert in New Mexico. It is approximately a total of 275 square miles with only 115 miles available to the White Sands National Monument and the public. The remaining fields are on military land. The gypsum origins are from what now is most commonly called Lake Lucero. The most active dunes are moving at a rate of up to 30 feet a year. Lake Lucero is on military land and accessible to the public by guided tours only. Reservations are needed for the guided tours. When visiting White Sands it's necessary have plenty of water and be protected from the elements as it's easy to become lost.

"After a grueling nine-hour drive, the hotel was an absolute lifesaver. Stepping into the lobby felt like a breath of fresh air after being cooped up in the car. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and exactly what I needed to unwind. Honestly, it was the perfect place to rest my head and recharge. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who's had a long journey."

"Staff was friendly, guests were nice, walking distance to San Jacinto plaza, drinks, food, bars, highly recommend mamacitas restaurant in the hotel lobby. Food was delicious! Around the corner is Reagan’s restaurant delicious truffle mushroom pizza, and steak. The lotus social house for drinks was good, bartender was friendly. Said the weekends they have a downstairs club. The pool was heated and warm in December. Room was great beds a little soft for my taste but still a great nights sleep. Theres valet parking come in and out for $22, charge to hotel room. There’s in no refrigerator in the room however. But other than that will definitely be staying here again! "
