“Cabin seemed very cozy at first until it got cold outside. It was a little drafty, especially upstairs. Glad we brought extra blankets! I did however find that we somehow turned off a switch in the laundry room to one of the baseboard heaters in the living room. Probably wouldn’t have been as cold had we known that. Our kids did not sleep upstairs due to it being cold and a little dusty. The location on the river was great and would have been very enjoyable in warmer weather. The kitchen……

“We’ve been coming to Davis for a long time but this was our first time staying in Black Bear. The Bear Lair was perfect for our stay. Clean, well decorated, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, and plenty of firewood. The central location was great as we bounced between Dolly Sods, Timberline, White Grass and downtown Davis. Abby was super responsive and accommodating. We definitely plan to return. ”

“Cabin is small but was perfect for the 4 of us. We had most of our dinner meals at the cabin. Not a lot of counter space but we made it work. Cabin was clean. The Host was very easy to get in touch with. Only about 15 minutes from Harrisonburg and with I-81 close by we were able to get around rather quickly. We road Skyline Drive and the leaves were just beginning to turn. It was a great trip! Where the cabin was located was very quiet & peaceful.”

“Probably one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. Clean, great location, peaceful, and the host even decorated for the holidays. The only iffy part of the experience was that the water left a bit of a residue, almost like the soap never fully rinsed off when washing your hands. Not really a complaint but if anyone else stays and experiences this know it’s likely just a water softener and not something gross or scary. ”
