"I have nothing to compare it with as this is my first experience of youth hostels in 40 years. I was impressed. I loved the open area, bar and restaurant. The dormitory was excellent. Beds were well spaced, ample plug sockets, mattress & pillows excellent. Clean sheets and super mattress. The bed was as good as any 5 star hotel. Honestly. The shower was clean but a little small. The facilities in the kitchen were good but some of the pans had loose handles. The staff clearly clean but somehow...

"The staff was very helpful to us - holding our luggage before check-in time so we could explore the area. We had dinner in the restaurant and came back later in the evening for dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious. The room was not huge but it was clean and the bed was comfortable, the shower hot and the little fan was great (it was quite a warm night). "

"Such a gem for easy access to Ullswater. Quick to get to as it's near Penrith so near motorways. 30 mins from Ambleside for more amenities. Need to know: they like to close at 9pm and the kitchen shuts at 8pm. Make sure you book for dinner and there's a form to fill out for the inclusive breakfast to be handed in by 9 or you'll miss it. If you miss it, Basecamp nearby does amazing breakfast and lunch + there's alpacas! The staff are very friendly, it's a family run pub, just need courteous and communicate, don't expect to rock up late or go for a boozy holiday because it's more set up for small groups and early bedtime to make the most of the lakes. We (couple) loved it and would stay again. Only downside was no fridge."

The breakfast was lovely, I really liked the fact it was served in your room kinda like room service, as a solo guest it avoided them awkward breakfast room conversations with the other guests 😀. I wouldn't hesitate to book again."

"Reception staff were lovely. After a long journey (4 hour drive) I turned up late at night 10pm on Friday and they were welcoming, able to show me around, spoke enthusiastic re the building, pointing out the footpath to the Lake, and I was able to get a night cap, had a good nights sleep and was ready for breakfast the next day."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My husband and I stayed at Roundthorn Country House and Luxury Apartments on 27th July, and we had a wonderful stay. We were delighted to be upgraded to one of the apartments, which was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully presented. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we both had a fantastic night's sleep. After a long drive, we really appreciated being able to check into our room early. It was a thoughtful gesture that made a big difference and got our stay off to a perfect start. We also enjoyed a delicious evening meal, and breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked and excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Roundthorn Country House and Luxury Apartments to anyone looking for a relaxing and comfortable place to stay."

"Absolutely lovely pub hotel. Rooms were great, comfortable beds, great selection of tea/coffee sachets in the room and a good smart TV. The breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly. So quiet and peaceful but 3 minute drive to Ullswater. I walked down to Aira Force from the hotel which was a bonus. We'll be back!"

"Hotel and surrounds were very pleasant. Staff - Reception, restaurant and room service were excellent and very welcoming and helpful. Food - Breakfast options were very good, service was great and food was high quality. Rooms - Comfortable beds and nice amenities but the bathrooms and room décor a little tired. Overall - a pleasant 1 night stay, would stay again"
