While Newton Rigg may not have many sights to explore, venturing just a little farther will lead you to top things to see and do like Rheged and Lowther Castle and Gardens.
Commune with nature and explore the great outdoors at Ullswater during your travels in Penrith. Stroll along the area's lakeside or simply savour its lively bars.
Very easily to access from the M6, great main road system but great to get off onto the small lanes to find unspoilt villages and countryside, as well as great fell and lake walks.

Penrith is a lovely town with all the necessary shops and a few great restaurants to have a meal. It is a short drive away from where we stayed at Ullswater.

I didn't go into Penrith as it was quite a long way further north and I was there for a rest and to see the squirrels. But I have been to Penrith before and over the years it just become a Mecca for lorries and has a good out of town set of stores.

If you're any of the upper floors, there's no lift so be prepared to get your steps in.
The food in the restaurant was great. The waiter was very attentive and helpful."
