We visited Rangeley for Christmas and 28 High Street is an ideal spot for a winter vacation. The house is very comfortable with a great kitchen (and every single kitchen thing that you can think of), a breakfast table, and a counter - a great spot for cooking and conversation. There is a separate dining room, and a very comfortable living room with just the right combination of soft and supportive seating well suited to both parents and kids. A fireplace/woodstove keeps the living room especially comfortable. Lots of bedrooms, comfortable beds, fresh quilts and comforters. The house is nicely furnished, but nothing too precious and fragile. And spotless, really, really, spotless. Aside from this being a great house, there are the people at Morton Furbish - we arrived as huge, windy storm hit Rangeley, trees down everywhere, power out, icy roads - total chaos - all this on the Friday before Christmas week. Anytime we called the office everyone was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. With the power out and temperatures dropping we couldn't get the fire started - next thing we knew Morton Furbish was there with extra kindling, and they started the fire for us. Flashlight batteries dead - Morton Furbish arrives with fresh ones. On Christmas Eve the hot water was off after blackout, and Morton Furbish is back to restart the water heater, just as cheerful and helpful as ever. We'll be back!
